Days Off

You can always tell when JC people have a day off from their jobs.

They aren't posting to JC.

Actually I'd do some shopping right now. There's a music store (instruments) nearby I need to visit.

Hey what instrument are you looking to buy?

Maybe instead of banning people, we could just change posters names to wanker. Wanker 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. until time off for good behavior. Like a scarlet letter.

Good idea, I'm Wanker69!

Was looking for some hi-hats cymbals. The web site of Sabian cymbals has a feature one can use to listen to every cymbal sound. Kinda neat.

My son tried the thing and chose some. He tried a crash cymbal too. I need to find the price. and a double pedal too... damn.. it's expensive.

For the record, I used the term drama queen in a gender neutral manner.

Actually, since the only place I have access to a computer is at work, I only post the JC when I am clocked in on the job.

My day job is posting to JC.

Hey, a lot of us are out of town and are at the mercy of the internet gods. God bless the advent of universal internet access - I am sitting in a hotel room in Buffalo, watching the snow fall and wondering how shitty my drive back will be.

It can be interesting, but also irritating, to not be on the M-F. My day off from horsework is Mondays. So I'm trying to have quiet, down time and some R&R while the rest of the society is getting back to it. Phone ringing all day, people coming and going. I retreat to the music room and try to make the best of it but am inevitably interrupted by one thing or another, pretty much all day and into the evening.

(Our live-in rider, who does something less than half of the barnwork per week -- I do the rest -- has Saturdays and Sundays off, so I do all of the horse-and-barn work solo, plus be Bronwyn's only caregiver (21/7, 365), from Friday afternoon to early Monday morning, and then have my break, following the hardest part of my week.

(Thusly, I look forward more to my evenings off, Mon-Weds, than to my day off.)

I do my JC time before or after chore sessions. There are four per day, plus whatever else needs doing.

Kids, horses, what's the difference? Like Gary, I look forward to Mondays because everyone's back out of my hair for a few short hours. This is multiplied by the effect of my wife having worked weekends preparing for a trial for the last couple of months, leaving me with both kids and no backup Saturday and Sunday. No complaint but for the fact they aren't taking well to Cecil Taylor, so the music gets dumbed down a little on weekends. And it's relatively exhausting, maybe more mentally than physically.

My trouble is, the JC/web browsing often seeps into chore and errand-running time.

In Albany this morning, not wanting to inflict an entire 470 mile drive in one sitting on the Trickettes. Or their father - Mrs. T. flew home early Saturday morning to get some more pre-trial work in, so I'm travelling alone with two young'uns.

Which takes some strategic planning: which NY Thruway rest areas have "family" restrooms? Who has to go to the bathroom, when? Fortunately, their caffeine-addled father knows where most of the Dunkin' Donuts close to the highway are along the way (Utica, Carrier Circle in Syracuse) so he can refuel while the girlies have fun playing with the hand dryer in relatively clean, secure restrooms.

One difference is that my horses weigh over a thousand pounds, each. :-)

Another is that kids eventually grow up (or used to.....) and become, one hopes, increasingly if gradually independent of the parents. All of my horses could very conceivably outlive me, barring the accidental and so forth. Three of the four doubtless will.

Being the only caregiver for another adult is a different matter, also. And, yeah, rest rooms and such take some real strategic thought. So, too, doorways. Stairs. Etc.

But I'm glad I'm not a parent because I don't have that kind of patience or selflessness. Never did, and I'm glad that I realized that about myself while still young enough to make the difference and prevent its happening.

I'm also glad that I can establish firm rules like this one: When I'm the driver, I'm the dj. Period.
