Thread trashing

There seems to be the constant occurence of thread thrashing going on on this forum.

Threads that do not appeal to certain posters get a quick and negative reply having little or nothing to do with the thread itself - just some hit and run remark about how uesless it is or they post a spin-off post before the thread has had a chance for a related reply.

Why?

No, don't ditch John. He's just frustrated.

But, in answer to his original concern I think that once a thread is up it has a life of its own. Also, threads about threads have a long and dreary history here.

A primary reason is that one of the administrators, Mone, is a frequent participant in thread crapping. Lois has this idea that the administrator is not expected to keep the forum welcoming for all people but is expected to create as much drama as possible.

Another popular game here is to trash new people. Depending on the mood here, you either get a rash of sugary, phony "welcome" to the board posts, or you see a newbie pounced on and kicked around for asking a question. It seems that the insecurity level is at toxic levels here when the only thing that makes a person feel good about themselves is to jump on a newbie for asking a question. Or gawd forbid, a newbie promotes his/herself in some way.

The other popular game is to soundly trash someone whose opinion you don't respect who is generally respected in the industry. The Gary Giddins episode, besides being a collossal embarrassment, also confirmed who the biggest jackasses are at JC. It's too bad because it would be nice to have more interaction with writers and artists but that's not going to happen. You wonder why someone who has little respect for Giddins would show up to get in his face and jump all over him because he admitted to not knowing something. Stanley Crouch's brief participation had people weeping, wailing and beating their breasts. Gotta keep JC pure for the faithful.

He isn't an administrator anymore. Lois is now the only person who moves or deletes threads, suspends or bans posters, etc.

You may find them sugary, but how do you know they're phony?

That must have changed since summer because he was still shown as the administrator back then. He still opines often about who is posting from where and who this or that poster is or is not.

If one doens't enjoy the so-called "popular games," why stick around?

And RainyDay, usually offended at the merest trifles, doesn't take issue with the image Mr. Cooper posted above?

Dunno. He may still have access to the database, or he may be tracking IPs (or something) on his own.

I love it!! Just mention jackasses and they bleed right out of the woodwork. Steve and Paul, now we just need the kingpin jerkoffs Abbey and Dolan and I will have hit the jackpot.

I'm glad you guys know who you are. And thanks for proving my point. Just like clockwork.

Funniest thread I've seen in quite some time.

Johnny P, don't sweat the small stuff. That's just the way things work around here sometimes.

And although I NEVER agree with a thing B says, I would suggest removing that pic.

It's not much of a fight, is it? Your posts are vacuous, and you don't know a whit about contemporary music.

You're not exactly a fount of brilliant ideas. Please, tell us about more jazz musicians named Lucky. We need to know.

Are you even allowed to post w/o Steve's permission?

Going for that 1K post mark, right? Good man!

Why remove the pic? That's the expression a lot of people would have on their face after time spent with unpleasant company and listening to "now baby jazz" when you'd prefer to be home watching the Flintstones Reunion. You'd grimmace and think, "...the horror, the horror..." as you got kicked in the mouth for not being a "now baby jazz" lover.

yeah. If JPC just did a bit of research, he'd realize that almost all threads that make it past one page have either turned into debates about what is/isn't jazz/ good jazz, or have even gone past that to just childish name calling. Not sure why he thinks his threads should be so special. Hell, he should consider himself lucky that nothing he's started turned into an Uli/Abbey event.

There is a herd mentality here. When a newbie signs on and posts something, whoever responds early on sets the tone for the rest of the posts. That's why it seems phony to me. The young lady who started a thread about design and jazz for her college class is a good example. She was soundly trashed, for no reason. She found help on other jazz boards, thankfully, so she at least doesn't think all jazz "fans" are assholes.
