Exploding Customer -- Live at Tampere Jazz Happening

How about that first theme? Sounds like The Specials! I'm on a second listen through and it's bit more overtly funky or more joyously funky, as in less minor-key vamps and such. The Near Eastern sonorities created by the front line are employed more, so sick--upper register alto and trumpet aligned in disjointed themes. As has been mentioned, the cuts are more concentrated and abbreviated. The two cuts from the first one ("Quoting Frippe. . ." and "Broken Glass") have long been my two favorite cuts from the first one. The former gets fine treatment, such a hard-swinging head. "Glass" obviously can't match the bravura of its original BUT within is Küchen's dopest solo with this band to date, on fire. Unlike Glenn Miller Martin (I assume) provides a bit of chatter 'twixt numbers. The rock influence is more evident, some of this does come from Billy Cox n' Buddy. . .all the better. These have been early, random thoughts. Thanks so much Jan for releasing this. Props to Hallonsten (that lascivious rasp is infectious) and Kjell for wonderful performances in particular.

. . .and the sound is far less fireplace-intimate (still fine, sometimes Quigley hides) than Glenn Miller, doubtless recorded in a much larger room.

Got this in the mail today and am giving it the first runthrough. "The Crying Whip" is on now and is absolutely smoking. I think I'll just stop posting and burn some CT vine/concerts and let this provide the soundtrack.

"Gone Herero" is a great one, too, quite weird in the grand scheme. Nordeson smolders.

Glad you have noticed Kjell’s playing. For me, he has always been one of the best. He sounds so beautiful without any big “show”. Kind of Blackwell approach.
You may have noticed the quite high tuned snare which gives a special character to the group here.

I recently got this (as a gift, as good a gift as I could've asked for) and agree that it's a good album. Nordeson is fairly busy and prominent, and yet plays with a very nice snap and bounce - I really like his playing here. Exploding Customer's music is such that even when the playing, solos, aren't top notch, the bass and drums, or perhaps more like the compositions, easily carry the day. Apart from the one long-ish bass solo which I find uninteresting, I don't have much to complain about the playing either. I'm already looking forward to the next installment and hope to catch them live next time I'm in Stockholm, whenever that might be. Recommended.

Un-fucking-believable. I'm in the middle of a marathon gin battle last night and around 12/12:30 on local public FM station 88.1 KDHX "Quoting Fripp" starts playing. I flip (for real) and call the jock up. He's beside himself that I'm down with the Customer and rounds out his show with "A Broken Glass". He gave a big pimp to Ayler and kept giving out the website. You're in the Midwest Jan!
