Happy 85th Clark Terry
Clark is celebrating his birthday at University of NH (one his greatest joys) is teaching, but I'll be emailing him your birthday messages on his return. As you know his playing is as great as always - if not better! Just listen to the sound bites on his website at http://clarkterry.com (you can send him birthday wishes through there as well)
It is unbelievebly awesome (IMO) his recording of Porgy and Bess when he was 84! He is in perfect form. Sadly the company that put it out shortly ran into financial troubles. We have about 6 copies left for sale that Clark autographed that are available from his site.
Wait for his autobiography...We'll be posting chapters on his site with a chance for you to participate with dedications. I've read bits of it and it's not like any musician's autobiography that I've ever read.
HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYs CLARK. THE BEST IS YET TO COME

1920 was a very good year, indeed!
My parents, my wife's parents, Clark Terry, and many other fine folks were born in this year.
Warmest wishes for a healthy, happy birthday, Clark "Mumbles" Terry.

Post war (WW One) baby boomers. Soldiers get home in 1919, babies pop out in 1920.

One of my best friends was born in 1920, I'll have to tell him about Mr. Mumbles.
Clark Terry a true living giant of our music.

To the man with the sparkle in his eyes
Dearest Clark:
As you know, I've loved and appreciated you for over 40 years now. I am thanking all the "powers that be" that you continue to share your special gifts with us. May you enjoy an abundance of good health and happiness in the years to come.
I'm looking forward to giving you a very big, belated birthday hug next month at IAJE!
Lots of love and blessings,
Valerie Bishop

Clark,
You make many a short list, mine included, as one of the finest trumpeters and musicians of all time, and one of the greatest Jazz Ambassadors as well!
The time that you were kind enough to allow me to visit with you a few years back on one of your summer trips to Stanford Jazz Workshop and tape an interview for my program, I consider a treasured experience.
During the late Johnny Carson's NYC years I would always hope that when they played "Stump The Band" they would call on you!!
Best of health to you and many happy returns!

His latest CD, Porgy and Bess finds him in fine form for any age. It's an excellent recording.

I was thinking about CT this morning when I woke up, and how glad I am he is still with us, and still blowing such sweet tunes on his horn!
Like Valerie, I'm looking forward to giving him a big hug in person.
Many more happy, healthy b'days, CT..... Who be Boo, Baby?
oops... you might not know who "hornplayer" is...

Porgy and Bess is on its way to you Val. Mailed it tonight as well as to a few others.
Bless you, my friend.

A friend of mine, who had no idea who Clark Terry is, heard "Mumbles" when we were watching the vintage film "Groove Tube" together recently, which features that track as part of the soundtrack. He liked it so much that he asked me to get him a copy of the recording. So at 85, Clark is still winning new fans.

We are getting into the Wayback Machine, and we are going back to the year 1965, and we're at the Monterey Jazz Festival. It's Sunday, and up on stage along with Clark are Dizzy Gillespie, Rex Stewart, and Red Allen. And Clark takes the lead on "Stardust," and time stops...
Happy Birthday, man. I know you're famous for saying that the Golden Years suck, but they beat the alternative. Thank you, thank you, for the music.

I was unaware of the P&B disc.
Thanks for pulling my coat.
It's on my to get list - as soon as I pay for all the lavish gifts I bought for Donna.

Without a doubt one of the most recognizable sounds on the instrument. The Basie septet (with Terry, Wardell Gray & Buddy DeFranco) was one of the great underrated bands of all time. I was just watching the 1975 JATP at Montreux DVD last night--Clark Terry & Roy Eldridge...
