Don't do that. As you can see, the results aren't always what was specified. You can get every one of those smilies from the drop-down Insert Smilie menu (click on the smiley icon above the Post Reply form). Also in that menu are these two: .

Besides, smilies are just "little images," so you can post any smiley that you encounter by grabbing its URL and proceeding as you would if you were going to post a "big image," using the IMG function.

This post of Scott Dolan's contains a good collection of aggressive ones.

IIRC, Lois didn't want to enable the Insert Smilie menu in the first place, so I don't know how she'd feel about adding more selections.

As always, John, if you want to be sure of getting Lois's attention, e-mail her--

Do do that.

The only smilies that worked in my list are the ones that are enabled on this forum. . . .

By "don't do that," I meant don't type those codes with colons to get the smilies. If you look at your results, you'll see that the codes didn't always produce the intended kind of smiley.

That's right, you're going to get only the enabled smilies "automatically" (I think), so you might as well get them the easy way--by clicking on the Insert Smilie icon and then clicking on a smiley from the drop-down menu.

I'd like to know the URL for the smilies, but it is a bit too much work to d/l them each time I want one.

One doesn't download anything. In IE, one right-clicks on the desired smiley, then clicks on Properties and Copies the URL from the Properties box. Then one uses the IMG function. It's still a little work, but not as much as downloading them. Aren't you one of the people I "showed" how to post images using the IMG function? It's exactly the same process.

I keep a list of some smilies' URLs.

I only see 10 smilies available on this forum.

Eleven.

I'll start another post and give you a few more smilies.

Just make sure you don't use a smilies site that loads spyware--smilies and song lyrics sites are among the worst offenders.

Here are a few more smilies. In keeping with what Pete said, use them at your own risk and run a spyware/adware detection program routinely.

I don't want to post their URLs and advertise their sources blatantly. John, can you right-click on the smilies, then click on Properties and get a Properties box from which to Copy their URLs? Can you get to their URLs in some other manner? If not, someone else will have to help you grab their URLs--which can surely be done in some manner with any kind of computer and with any browser.

Once you learn that, you can grab any smiley that you see online, anywhere (if you're willing to take the risk and if it's not copy protected).

I hate smilies.
Stupid way to communicate.
Never use them, never will.

John Cooper--

I see from this post of yours that you've learned to post images from the Internet by using the IMG function. Now you can post any smiley you see (theoretically), including the ones in this thread. Just treat each smiley as a "little image."

You can save the URLs of your favorite smilies someplace. It's not as convenient as having all of them be "built into" JC, but it works.

John--

You're welcome. But do avail yourself of the smilies that are built into JC, which you can access by clicking on the smiley icon above the Post Reply form and then clicking on a smiley from the drop-down menu.
