Help Please

I'm currently doing a research paper on jazz and how it is said that it is the only true creation, in art, originating in the U.S. Any suggested sites or books would be of great value to me. Thank you for your time.

Meaning what--country music, rock'n'roll, hiphop, &c &c get written off? The idea of jazz as America's Only True Artform has currency in some circles, largely as a polemical brickbat wielded by the Crouch/Marsalis axis. One can value jazz & its seminal contribution to 20th-c. music without needing to put it up on this kind of pedestal.

Geez

What's your deal? Just seeking information supporting or contrasting this idea. Didn't imply any of the things that you suggested and have yet to establish an opinion either way. Hence, the purpose of a research paper, to help create a new understanding for the topic at hand. Unsubstantiated opinions are generally unhelpful in this regard. Thank you for wasting my time.

Sean--if you look more carefully at my posting you'll see that it suggests that if you want the jazz=American's only true artform argument stated in its most influential & polemical form, you should be looking at the work of Stanley Crouch & Wynton Marsalis. (If you want a handy redaction, the various Ken Burns paraphernalia relies extensively on Crouch & Marsalis.) What I wrote was opinionated, yes, but is not unsubstantiated nor a time-waster.
