If You Thought Kenny G doing Louis A was a travesty....

Today on the local GASBag station they featured one of the absolute worst pieces of laughable shitte I have ever heard.

It was Sinatra doing his version of "I've Got You Under My Skin" and he was joined by some shreiking banshee of a female 'vocalist' and an even more horrid, unmusical groaning 'singer' who simply could not sing and sounded like has was having an orgasm during the horrendous overdubs.

At times it as Sinatra solo, then dueting with one of the two pretenders, then all three of them would be wailing. She chick air-raided her self over Milt Bernhardt's trombone solo and the guy moaned in the background. Nadir.

The Kenny G/Louis A "World" track was a masterpeice and genuine homage compared to this.

Does anyone know who these no talents were? They should be verbally assualted and condemned.

Google says it's a duet with Bono from U2.

Dunno about the banshee.

Yeah...I just looked and listened to some clips. Sounded like the same guy and this thing has existed since 1993!

They didn't list the schreecher anywhere. The worst 3 listening minutes I have heard in ages.

Surely not worse than Mr. Guarini's tepid interpretations of standards.

Oh, yes. Far far worse. Unimaginably bad! A total piece of shit. Unredeemable. Made by people who want to go to hell and don't want to stand in line.

John, you were lucky in 1993 not to get this as a Christmas present:

Frank Sinatra "Duets"

http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1108888
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p...0:uyfjzfi7eh3k

Quote:
Personnel includes: Frank Sinatra, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Bono, Gloria Estefan, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Liza Minnelli, Luther Vandross, Carly Simon, Julio Iglesias, Charles Aznavour (vocals);

Among the most unusual is the surreal, David Lynch feel of the Sinatra/Bono "I've Got You Under My Skin," with Bono's haunting wail contrasting Sinatra's gruff pragmatism.

Surprisingly, one of the most effective collaborations here is with an instrumentalist, perhaps just because it gives Sinatra's voice that much more room to roam; "One For My Baby," adorned by Kenny G's sax filigrees, has never rung truer.
There was also a "Duets II" sequel

Nefertiti-

I guess that it is that bounder Bozo who overdubbed himself twice to make it sound like 2 people 'singing' along with Sinatra. What an embarassment. I cannot believe that the thing was not lambasted in the extreme when it escaped.

"Haunting wail", my ass!

He'd better avoid Han Bennink, too, who has been known to "sing" on certain performances.

I can imagine a lot of music--it would encompass most post-swing-era jazz--that Mr. Cooper has not listened to or knows nothing about.

But he's foaming at the mouth about Bono.

Lordy lordy...

I wasn't aware that you needed to be up-to-date with post-swing era jazz to realize that Bono's unsubtle Streisandian bellowing was an affront to the human eardrum.

No? Then you clearly haven't listened to the glory that is Paul Dunmall.

No, but I've seen plenty of the glory that Reynolds takes in being Reynolds.

I saw the glory that is Paul Dunmall, in concert with Paul Rogers and Kevin Norton. But I failed to glory in it, perhaps because I hated all of Norton's contributions and perhaps because I was terribly distracted by Dunmall's terminally dorky hat.

Oh, Dunmall's OK, though not really a favourite of mine, but I figured we'd better make sure all the hobbyhorses got an airing on this thread, whether or not they have anything to do with the thread topic.

This may turn out to be a pretty long thread.

I was at the same show as BN and thought that Norton was a very capable accompanist. He's a great player in my book and I’m not sure why Rita had such a strong reaction. I enjoyed Rogers and Dunmall too.

In fairness to John, it seems like his tastes run past the swing era a bit, but so what it they don't.

Clay, there's no point in my elaborating on my negative response--at least not on the board. If I could bring myself to give Norton another chance, maybe I'd like him better.

I thought that Rogers and Dunmall were okay, but the experience didn't make me a Dunmall fan. I even felt guilty chatting with Dunmall between sets (conveying somebody's regards to him), because he was very nice.

John :

my suggestion is you don't encourage the preacher and his minions .. their collective rabid dedication to the"newer music " constitutes a veritable force of nature that will inundate you with names of a multitude of contemporary artists you never imaginged existed.

(..and I say this with genuine fondness for preacher Steve and his zealotry ..it's nice to see his spirit coming back! )
