Middle of the Night Jazz Radio?

Does anyone have any MOTNJR stations they can listen to or know of any?

I want over the air AM or FM radio.

And I am curious to hear if there are any anywhere any more.

AM radio?

I believe an NPR station in South Florida plays jazz those hours. But why are you asking?

KCSM-FM in San Mateo, CA has 24-hour jazz.

I'd like to be able to listen in the middle of the night b/c it is nice and I wonder if there is still an 'all night jazz store' on the traditional airwaves....live, not pre-programmed.

The San Mateo station looks like a college station. Guess I can't get it here in LA>

You can listen to KCSM--which, by the way, is an excellent jazz station--by streaming it over the Web.

Bye-ya

It is 'technically' a college station, but they have professional (and very good) DJs - including Clifford Brown, Jr.

There are five 24 hour jazz stations:

KCSM - San Mateo
KUVO - Denver
KSDS - San Diego
WGMC - Rochester
WBGO - Newark

All of them are streaming on the web and I believe only KUVO and KCSM are NPR stations.

In the 70's there was WHAM in Rochester, where Harry Abraham has his wonderful "The Best Of all Possible Worlds" from 1am to 5am.

WHAM was a 50,000 watt clear chanel station that you could get on your car AM radio clear to the Joplin Mo. to the west.

KPLU -FM ( Seattle/Tacoma ) is 24 hour jazz ( blues on Sat : 7 to midnite )

On Fridays /Saturday nights, Jim Wilkes' " Jazz after Hours " is syndicated on many stations by PRI ( Public Radio International )

The local Chicago NPR affiliate, WBEZ does jazz overnight til 4am Sunday through Friday, Excellent "blues"* program Saturday overnights. Available streamed on the web.

Leon Harris

*The nominally blues, "Blues Before Sunrise", includes about 25% non-blues, Black popular music from 1920-Today. (Club Blues like Nat Cole, Charles Brown, Percy Mayfield and Dinah Washington; "Hep Harmony": Cats and a Fiddle, Mills Brothers, etc., Comedy features like Pigmeat Markham, Moms Mabley, Gospel Music, and even the odd Sermon or two.)

A very nice complement to the regular jazz overnight.

Hello, Leon!

"Blues Before Sunrise" is a wonderful show. It has to be heard to be believed, like taking a walk back in time.
