I'm coming to NYC

hi folks,

It's been a while since I've been around, but surely some old peeps are still here. Anyway, I'll be in NYC from the 13th through the 16th (of June).

So if any knows of some good avant-garde jazz, eai, creative improvised whatever going down those days, please let me know. And if you'd like to get together before, during, or after, I'm up for it. Saturday at Tonic looks interesting as does Angelica Sanchez at Cornelia St (also Saturday). But surely there's more that I haven't found yet.

Probably best to get me by e-mail at walter_davis@unc.edu

Hey Walt!

It's been a long time I shouldn't have left you
Without a strong rhyme to step to
Think of how many weak shows you slept through
Time's up I'm sorry I kept you

Anyway, I can't help you. Too bad you can't stay another day. I see Nels Cline, Andrea Parkins, and Tom Rainey are playing at Tonic on the 17th (Badawi's playing later that day, too).

Walt, you know the Unstable Ensemble will be in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) on Friday night, yes? I'll be driving over--e-mail me if you'd like to go and need a lift.

Yo Walt (former H&B here, in case you haven't been on the new board long enough to tell...)

I'm planning on going to the UE gig (if I can find my way to Williamsburg) and Angelica Sanchez on Saturday. In addition, JC poster hearsay is leading a potentially interesting quartet also at the Cornelia Street Cafe on Sunday.

Be good to meet you!

Pat, that's the group which includes our own Jason Bivins. There's a thread here in Speak Out about their tour.

Thanks for all the tips folks. I feel I have to see the UE on the 13th -- I was bumming about missing them here on the 14th and so this is obviously kismet and you don't fuck with kismet.

Saturday looks just too damn busy, but I'm leaning towards Tonic.

Sunday at Music Now! looks interesting.

Now, if anyone has an extra for Elvin and Cecil on Tues, the 17th, I just might have to stay an extra day.

What do you mean? It's only the 10:30 set at the Blue Note, and I can't imagine they're all booked up. You could make that set AND Nels Cline at 8.

I'm thinking about Tonic on Saturday, aiming for Hearsay on Sunday, and sure to catch Cline on Tuesday. I can't afford the Blue Note.

Well, Giddins (in the Voice) warns "there will be lines." If I knew I'd get in, it would be worth the hassle of staying the extra day. But obviously not on the chance of getting in.

But then again, they're still taking reservations and I've just made one (woo-hoo).

As to Mr. Cline, he's never actually done it for me, so I'm unlikely to be there for that one.

If you have a reservation and get there more than 30 minutes in advance you'll get in.

Walt, I'll be there for Cecil and Elvin on Tuesday. You can look for me in line there. You may remember meeting me in Atlanta a few years back. We had communicated a lot about presenting concerts prior to that. I think that I recall what you look like. Anyways, perhaps I'll see you there, or at Brecht Forum on Sunday.

hi Pat,

Of course I remember meeting you and all our e-mail exchanges. But I suck with remembering faces (and even worse with names). But I'm still the big guy with glasses and a pony tail.
