Jekyll Island Celebrates a Bella Sera ‘Beautiful Evening’ of Jazz in March 2006
Featuring Renowned Musician Marcus Printup
Jekyll Island, Ga. (Dec. 15, 2005) – Celebrating the timeless and soulful qualities of American jazz music, Jekyll Island offers Bella Sera Sunset Jazz Weekend, a unique three-day celebration of music March 3-5, 2006, featuring post-bebop trumpet-playing master Marcus Printup along with local performer, Dr. Marc Dickman. Event sponsor, The Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and other venues on the island, will play host to several performances throughout the weekend.
The event kicks off on Friday, March 3, from 9-11 p.m., with an intimate jazz performance at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel ballroom. The signature event for the weekend will be an outdoor performance on Saturday night by featured performer Marcus Printup on the Riverfront Lawn near the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.
Group ticket sales, general admission tickets and hotel packages for Bella Sera will be announced in early 2006, and will be available through the Jekyll Island Welcome Center, as well as the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

Printup, originally from Conyers, Georgia, has experienced success all over the world. Highly regarded for his unique trumpet techniques that display unique spiritual and gospel influences from his youth, Printup continues to influence his jazz fans across the United States and the world. As the main musician, ensemble support and as part of a jazz compilation CD, Printup has been featured in 25 different albums, and he currently enjoys much renown as part of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in New York City.
Also participating in this unique weekend of jazz is the Jekyll Island Club Hotel’s exclusive artist, Dr. Marc Dickman. Currently, Dickman serves as Associate Professor of jazz studies and low brass at the University of North Florida, where he also conducts the Jazz Ensemble and tuba/euphonium choir. A founding member of the Modern Jazz Tuba Project, Dickman has two critically acclaimed releases; Live From the Bottom Line, and Favorite Things.
