Yoga

I've been practicing yoga for about a year-and-a-half now and find the benefits remarkable! More peace of mind, flexibility in my body that I've never had before, less stress, and a more evenly toned physique.

Yoga is physical and spiritual at the same time. I had worked out with weights for about 8-9 years before this and in addition to finding pumping iron incredibly boring, I never quite got the "results" I wanted. Yoga puts my mind and body in a whole different mindset. It can be very grueling at times, but the payoff is well worth it!

Anyone else here practice yoga? I'd love to know your experiences!

I don't practice yoga but my wife goes to one of those Pilates classes which seem to be a similar type of exercise regime. She claims that it's like yoga in that it's much tougher than it actually looks................

It's the karmic burden we all bear, RBS. At least you are doing something about it. Me, I just rely on my high caste station and the good graces of Lord Arjuna.

Sorry, couldn't resist. My cousin teaches yoga and she's tried to get me involved. I counter that if my demeanor was any more relaxed than it already is, I'd melt away to nothing.

He was a great bad ball hitter.

Donna has been doing pilates for a couple of years now, she tells me that it's very similar to yoga which she did at some time in the distant past.

Thanks, Clint, I guess RBS is too exasperated to answer my question. I can't say that I blame him. Brian and Monte are so damned immature..................

Hey, I restrained myself from asking whether or not Pilate yoga involved nailing.

Here's one for you. Joanne just e-mailed me from work to let me know that she'll be coming home a little later than usual. She's gonna try a new class at the gym today. It's called Zumba. Don't ask me what the hell that is. I'm still trying to find out what Pilates is. What ever happen to just playing basketball to get a little exersize?................

Zumba is a marketing term attached to Afro-Brazilian dance (and other Latin dances I think) to sell to the exercise world.

Jimmy,

I was out to lunch -- not doing yoga, just running an errand. My wife takes Pilates and says they're completely different animals, but some of the exercises are the same. She described it to me and they sounded similar, but she says they're totally different.

Pilates sounds like yoga on speed to me.

Every once in a while I peer into the exerzise room where they have the Pilates class and it looks like they're just laying there slowly raising their legs, arms and pelvises. It didn't look very strenuous to me but my wife assures me that it's a great workout and she's in pretty good shape. I guess yoga is similar in that it's low impact but high in the resultant physical benefits.

As for Zumba, now that Tippy explained it, I do remember it being described as a dance based workout.....................

Jimmy,

Try taking a yoga class. By 45 minutes you're sweating buckets and you're not even sure why!

It feels better than any he-man pumping iron thing anywhere.

Yeah, I should. The only problem I would have with it is the whole idea of a "class" and being somewhere at an appointed time. As it is now, I workout at the gym solo and don't follow any time schedule which allows me a little more flexibility. One of these days I'll have to give it a try, though..............

That's not Michael Bolton, that's that dr. guy from ER. I knew he'd snap someday.

Instead of a JC hang...we need to have a JC Ass Kicking. You'd get better attendance (except for the fraidy cats).
