Savannah Music Festival
Jazz Lineup for the Savannah Music Festival (March 17-April 2). SMF’ artistic director is Rob Gibson (founding director of Jazz at Lincoln Center) who has run the festival for the last three years. It is now one of the Southeast’s fastest growing and most diverse festivals showcasing the musical arts. It has quadrupled our attendance and ticket sales during the last three years, while more than doubling our budget. During the 17th annual Savannah Music Festival, more than 500 artists performing across 100 events will come together in one of America’s most beautiful and historic cities.
Jazz & blues programming highlights include:
Premieres of commissioned arrangements by jazz pianist Bill Charlap, for his trio and special guests Frank Wess and Slide Hampton;
Tango Meets Jazz: The Pablo Ziegler Quartet Featuring Dave Samuels;
Living Legends of the Blues: Pinetop Perkins, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Nappy Brown & Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin
Rick Benjamin’s Paragon Ragtime Orchestra performing the live score to Buster Keaton’s The General;
Rebirth Brass Band
Marcus Roberts Trio with special guest Wycliffe Gordon
Walter “Wolfman” Washington & the Roadmasters
Piano Showdown: Stride, Boogie & Blues featuring Bob Seeley, Mark Braun, John Cocuzzi and Bob Page;
Happy Birthday, Ben – a 75th Anniversary celebration of jazz bassist Ben Tucker
A two-day Southeastern high school jazz band workshop, under the musical direction of Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, Don Braden, James Ketch, Jason Marsalis and others
Other performers include Irish band Lúnasa, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, Del McCoury Band, Derek Trucks Band, Emmylou Harris, Oteil Burbridge & the Peacemakers, Les Ballets Africaines, Peru Negro, 2005 Grammy nominee The Campbell Brothers, The Emerson String Quartet, The Codetalkers, Terence Simien & the Zydeco Experience, and many others.
