The death of Jaki Byard

Does anyone remember if Jaki Byard's murder was ever solved? I remember reading that his son might have been involved in some way but the details are sketchy. Any insights would be welcome

A friend of mine was one of his students who would probably know, but I never heard of any conclusion. I think it remains unsolved. There was speculation about one of his children or some shady people they may have known. What a tragedy.

Forgive my ignorance, but when did it happen? I love his live recordings with Alan Dawson and Joe Farrell at Lenny's on the Turnpike in nearby Peabody, MA.

Early 1999. I remember drummer George Schuller dedicating Byard's composition Ode To Charlie Parker to Byard himself during a performance with his Schulldogs group shortly after his death.
