JJA Awards Predictions - Who's Gonna Win

The JJA Awards are taking place next Wednesday at BB Kings. We're packed with more than 450 in attendance with music from Wallace Roney Quintet, Judi Silvano and James Williams in a tribute to Mal Waldron, Dave Hazeltine Quartet and The New Composers Octet and Grandpa Al Lewis as special guest.

So here it is the 1st poll

Of course, who will win and who you would vote for might be very different responses.

Now How can we make a wager?

My guess is that Shorter would have the sentimental edge based on the historical positioning of the album--i.e. a return to acoustic by a living legend. I haven't heard the Allison or Moran. I find the Jarrett brilliant and the Holland not up to what I saw the big band do live.

Will any of these stand the tests of time? Will they be fondly remembered 10 years from now?

Hey I actually get to see show on home turf! Holland BB this Friday at a park in a pretentious and affluent part of town. I plan to be toasted. . .niiiicely toasted. And I haven't heard any of the dates in the poll, sorry to bother everyone. Can't wait to drool over contrabass solos though!

I agree with Pete C re Shorter, but I disagree about Dave's Big Band I think it's an amazing output....

I personally thought that Footprints Live! was outstanding. But it really seems to have gotten mixed reviews from critics as well as fans. I would love to see him win it, but I have my doubts that he will.

Hey Less Noyz. . .why don't you shoot in for Holland tomorrow? I don't care what brand of jazz you like, watching him play his instrument live is a privilege.

Man I'd love to Michael, problem is, we just moved and life is kinda upside down for us right now. Plus, I work nights, so that kills it even more. DAMN!! DAMN!! DAMN!!!!

But thanks for the heads up though, just bad timing for me.

But also, in response to your other remark, if it's live, and it's acoustic, it's my brand of Jazz!!
