I wish I could turn the sounds off, and keep 'em off

I do, I really do.

Peter--

Please see this thread if you haven't already:

The Jazz Corner Icons

As you'll read, there's an option to turn the sounds off. I don't know about keeping them off; maybe someone else does.

You're right, it's not a big deal, but I've wondered about it too, Peter. I keep the sound off most of the time on my computer, but sometimes when I'm listening to music on it and I'm surfing JC, I'll hit those icons and they'll startle me. I wish I could just turn them off and leave them off forever. They're clever little doodad, but it's kind of annoying to have to remember to shut them off every time I have my computer un-muted.

I don't like my computer to intrude on me with unrequested sound in general. I even get annoyed by musicians whose websites open with music. I understand that the idea is to immediately grab the ear of somebody visiting the site, but I don't want my ear grabbed when I'm listening to something else (or just not particulary interested).

Anyway, if there was a way to turn off the JC icon sounds permanently, I'd love to know too.

Up for the old icon thread.

Is anybody else as annoyed as I to have sites "force" unselected sound into your life? I'm not talking specifically about JC. I visited a jazz singer's site last night and was once again bombarded by music while trying to hear something else. Took a while to find the OFF button, too.

Yeah, compared to most of the problems in the world (and even around here) it's not that big a deal. But I can't imagine that Peter and I are the only two who have ever been annoyed with this.

I think Lois should rotate the sounds on a daily basis. Then you can kind of quiz yourself when you come on.

Count me amongst the no-sounds group.
