Wynton Marsalis Septet/ Ellis Marsalis Trio- Joe Cool's Blues

I checked out this CD from the library to get a sample of Wynton Marsalis's work. I loved it! It is all Peanuts and Peanuts- inspired tunes. The Marsalises give the classics (I have always loved the Peanut's TV special's music) and the originals a great workout. My favorite is the immortal "Linus and Lucy", but all of the tracks really are great.

Yes, this is a Wynton record that is highly enjoyable - unpretentious, straightforward, just a good swingin' time.

I bought this one

it underscores what a lackluster composer he is - the Guaraldi tunes are memorable and melodious, while Wynton's tunes are simply boring and leave nothing in one's mouth and ears except a bit of an odor.

I can vouch that there is a very strange odor in Steve Reynolds's ears.

I guess I maybe Wynton's #1 Fan on this board but I have to admit this is one of my least favorite Marsalis titles.Theo if you want to jam some Wynton get "Black Codes from the Underground","J-Mood" or the box set "Live @ The Village Vanguard"then you be jammin some Wynton Peace and all that.

What's wrong with just plain fun music? I do like deep and thoughtful, but fun is nice too. This is what this album is about: fun.

Another song on the CD I like a lot is "Peppermint Patty."
