The Boehner Thead

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. John Boehner of Ohio was elected House majority leader Thursday to replace indicted Rep. Tom DeLay. Boehner defeated fellow Republican Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri, 122-109, after lagging behind his rival in a first, inconclusive ballot.

The liberal media strikes again. Politicians would never do something this dishonest.

Never. It would be like handing out checks from tobacco lobbyists on the house floor.

I"m disappointed that John Shadegg didn't win, although I didn't really expect him to prevail.. Why did McCain wait until the day before the vote, when everybody had already committed to somebody before endorsing Shadegg?

Rootz, this just may be a high point in cheap shots for you.

Sweetness!

I appreciate someone who subscribes to the "smoke 'em if you've got 'em" approach!

I've read this but haven't heard it on the news. Is his name pronounced "boner"? And if so, is this, therefore, just another boner thread?

It is pronounced that way.

Republicans who want the party to clean up its act in both Houses would rate them:
1. Shadegg
2. Boehner
3. Blunt

Boehner has been very outspoken about cutting back on the pork.

But I'll wait to see if he follows through with some action.

I have heard it pronounced only as Bay-ner. But "Boehner Thread" is pretty damn funny.

Cutting back on pork? Perish the thought.

If it's a German name it should technically be pronounced Burner, no? As in The Mighty Boehner.

He was referred to as "Bonner" the other day. From what I understand, that is the "correct" way to pronounce his last name.

Unlikely--he's steeped in K Street culture. Any "changes" are likely to be cosmetic.

Who knows at this point. There is a small number of Republicans who have slowly but surely been breaking away from the mainstays of the party.

I have to seriously doubt Boehner will follow through. But at least he's made statements to the contrary.

So who knows?
