Single Focus: Martin Küchen - Imperial Music XVI

Download it here.

I hope bringing this over here is alright with the Baganauts.

Incredible sounds for something that's completely acoustic and not reworked on computer or in the studio.

absolutely fine, Mwanj. I'm glad the series was mentioned over in these parts.

Really cool idea... egg on my face, but I hadn't checked Bagatellen in a while. When I did, I didn't notice the "listen" link. Anyway, very cool stuff, and I'll be checking back often. Let you know what I think of this piece once I listen to it.

I couldn't agree with Mwanji more... very fascinating track. Would like to hear more, for sure.

The only other music of Küchen's that I know is Exploding Customer, which is hard-swinging, post-Ornette stuff not really like the sound exploration of "Imperial Music XVI".

For those who'd like to hear more; you are aware that Martin Kuchen has a solo disc, titled "Music from one of the provinces in the empire", containing Imperial Music I-XV? I haven't yet listened to this piece but the approach seems to be the same. The bagatellen review is here. Though what I'd really like is to watch these pieces performed live, the disc (and the bagatallen bonus) is the next best thing.

Also, Kuchen has another (among others) project called Sound of Mucus and I'd recommend their album "Filth Pharmacy" - different both from Exploding Customer and his solo work (or, say, his work with Looper), except for a track or two which sound similar to his solo work. The music is a fair bit like what you'd expect given the title of the, three piece iirc, ensemble and the album. Some great fun passages in there.

Good stuff. Remonds me of what Herman Bühler is doing - samples here.
