I love the soundtrack. The sound of kids laughing is one of the sweetest sounds I know.

The word "disconnect" comes to mind.

I don't know why you guys are harping on the dog. It's rather plain from the video evidence that the back foot is instigating all this.

His Own Worst Enemy

well Monte,

this dog has either ingested bad food or he/she is pretty
old.

grinding its teeth on a bone to clean away the plague and then attacking its own foot. sounds and looks like it has been caged in a small carrier for too long.

all of my dogs lick their paws to clean them. this brute must be on the eclipse, waiting for another full moon.

damned funny video though:

Ok, I've been avoiding this thread, not wanting to be Doc "Buzz Kill" Martin, but..........

In my field, it's; “Can I have a; 100mgs Xylazine with a 10 ml vial of Ketamine, injection, please?” said Doc Martin in a somber tone.
No really.

While that is the funniest post, actually it’s not the back foot as much as one of the four cerebral cortex lobes, Gary Delligatti nailed it.

No really.

That's the prescription, but what's the diagnosis? The dog has some neurological problems?

And apologies to the subject, his or her family, and all the similiarly afflicted critters of the world. It never entered my mind that there was something actually wrong with the dog.

Dunno, but from the ketamine the doc is either gunning for a three legged dog or thinking that severe doggie flashbacks might distract it.

I think the Doc is saying he'd make it an ex-dog.

Doc, why so severe? Is the animal in that much pain? Is it dangerous?

Sadly, the prescription is for euthanasia, as the dog is shall we say “mad as a hatter”.

Not meaning to sound condescending (and I can’t emphasize that enough). If you and I were in the same room, viewing the video I could pause, slow it down and point out to you some of the more subtle disturbing behavior the poor dog is demonstrating.

On the not so subtle side:
Young Mammals with long tails are often distracted by their tails hitting their bodies. Normally after five or six times the animal realizes that it is only their tail, and ignore it (I have viewed some very funny videos of young agitated animals biting their tails). Unfortunately, the dog in the video, who would appear to be an adult hasn’t learned or has possibly forgotten this lesson. Either way it’s kind of sad.

Many dog owners observe growling, nipping and possibly biting when they go near their dog’s food or toys. Dogs like this have a problem with "Possession Aggression". As an aside; if any regulars (and you know who you are) have a dog like this PM me and I will happy to send you ways to avoid this if they are puppies, or some steps to take if the dog is adult. Anyway; the dog in the video takes Possession Aggression to a whole new level, a sort of Self-Possession Aggression, if you will.

The dog is indeed its own worst enemy, and does not appear to be at all happy, as dogs should. Judging from what I can see in the video; there is very little to no quality of life here.

Hey Steve, don’t sweat it man. As much as I love animals, I hold people in a higher regard, and yet on another thread I was laughing at Russians driving through a tunnel, and having accidents, whom I’m sure in a few instances were killed.
So it goes………………………

Doc, our Lhasa used to freak out right after getting her hair cut because her tail remained long but the fur on her back was short enough that she could suddenly feel her tail brushing up against it. She'd dart around to try to figure out what "it" was that was touching her back. She'd seemingly get depressed, to the extent that she'd sit on the couch or in a corner, where the tail was beside her and didn't bother her, finally finding solace from the torment. I have to admit, it was really funny to me that it seemed like she never figured out it was her tail, but learned that sticking her butt in the corner of a room somehow made it stop.
