Radio Silence

Hi, all. The space bar on my computer crapped out and unbelievably has to be sent to the factory for it to be replaced. Go figure. Anyways, my online access will be very erratic for a while. I'm on someone else's right now.

See youse as I can.

Gary, are you sure you don't want to visit your nearest big-box store and just pick up a new keyboard? Doing that would be at least as cheap, I'd think, and you'd have . . . a new keyboard.

That would be an old Maytag washer carton...the biggest box up there in Hooter Hills, VT. Everything else has to be shipped in from the United States of America...down the hill somewhere.

I'm guessing he's got the kind of warranty where you have to ship back the machine.

My money's on John B's suggestion that Gary's computer might be a laptop.

Our computer is a laptop. The spacebar was sticking for a while, off and on, so no surprise when it crapped out. Just a pain to have it repaired, having to send it off and all.

The main pain is only being able to check the email erratically, as I have some projects in the works that require real attention.

I could get a cheapo keyboard but it wouldn't solve the problem (ignoring the clock ticking on the warranty, also) and it would make it difficult for Bronwyn to use, as well. The guy at the store where I bought it said he could lend us one but when I asked what I was supposed to be plug it into if the machine had been sent to the factory, his response was, "Good question." Ever get nervous dealing with techs? .....

Aside from the pressingness of the projects it's actually quite a nice little vacation from online. Mornings have been very different. I kind of like it. I wrote two long personal letters the past two mornings. I can't say I've done that in many years. Received one as well this past week -- from Laos of all places, from a friend I used to play music with, who's there teaching blind kids how to play guitar -- and that hasn't happened in long while, either, since email took over.
