Avatar help?
I'd like to add a custom avatar; when I try to upload it, I get an "invalid file" notice. Too many pixels, maybe, or ?? lhj

That's probably it, I'd guess. "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 351.6 KB (whichever is smaller)."
--Do you know how to tell how big it is, in both pixels and KB?
--Do you know how to resize it (or reduce its resolution) if necessary?

By checking its "properties" I see it's under the max KB, but over the pixels limit. I don't know how to resize it (or reduce resolution). I've gotta admit, I'm a "computilliterate" - they're naught but glorified typewriters to me. Tips, please?

I suggest that you do one of these three things (the instructions are kind of condensed but can be expanded if necessary):
1. Get the free image viewer/editor IrfanView--
http://www.irfanview.com
In IrfanView, File --> Open --> Image --> Resize/Resample --> type in a size no bigger than 100 pixels for the biggest dimension --> File --> Save.
2. Join the free image storage website Flickr--
http://www.flickr.com/
Upload your image into Flickr, Save, then choose the "thumbnail" or "small" size.
3. Ask me, either here or in a PM, and I'll PM you my e-mail address. You can then e-mail me your image, and I'll resize it for you. (Alternatively, if you can post your image here as an Attachment to a Reply, I can grab it and resize it for you.)
Meantime, someone else may either volunteer to resize your image for you or post other suggestions.

Many thanks! I'll see if I can figure it out tonight, if not, I'll e-mail. Overslept this morning, running late to work (and it's all John P. Cooper's fault!). This is a wondrous site -- cheers, lah

wow - did I ever get sidetracked... meanwhile, I decided against the first pic, haven't settled on another, but would like to attach one to a post I'll be making in the Alley (when I can figure out what I want to say). Would it be the same procedure(s) for in posts as in avatars? Also, do you know of any (or many) couples who've connected through JC (speaking of sidetracks)?

I started out researching whistlers and ended up engaged to one. Does this sort of thing happen often? Cheers - lhj
