Autistic basketball player
This is pretty damned cool, and I hope it's not an elaborate hoax of some sort.
An autistic boy who worked as an assistant for a high school basketball team was allowed to play in the team's final game at the end of a blowout. He responded by scoring twenty points in the last four minutes.

The player and crowd reactions at the end are fantastic.

No, this is real. There were stories about it everywhere over the weekend. Totally awesome. Great story.

this can't be a hoax - this is as good as it gets. I don't watchg that much TV anymore - so I was glad you posted the link. I had heard about it - but this is the first time I was able to see it.
if it isaq hoax, I will lose faith in anything I see on TV.

Very cool, and much more exciting than anything I saw in the Olympics.

Beautiful. Would be difficult to believe if it were written fiction.

Yeah, that was the reason for my initial skepticism.
We had a similiar case on my high school basketball team. The guy wasn't autistic, just supremely untalented, but he always hustled in practice and was generally a favorite among the players. We gave him the last five minutes of a blowout victory and he nearly blew the twenty-point lead that we had, commiting about five turnovers and four personal fouls. The coach actually had to take him out again.
Last I heard, the kid took up the drums, moved to Detroit and became a diehard Red Wings fan.

I saw this story on the CBS evening news Friday night. They ran it on Thursday night, and they said that they got such an overwhelming response to the story that they decided to run it two nights in a row.

I'd love to see the clip, but, with my dialup, it'd probably take most of the rest of the day.
[I guess there are worse things than selling Red Wing shoes and being a drummer. ]

That's nothing. Burlington, Vt, has an autistic director of its premiere concert hall.
