Selling On Gemm Vs Ebay Stores?

Both are new territory to me.

Does anyone have any clues and tips and info?

eBay *auctions* are OK, but most of the time, no one can see your stuff if it is not currently being auctioned.

I have a lot of items I need to sell and I just dont want to keep listing and relisting them on eBay.

Is an eBay store a better idea or is GEMM the better way?

Or both???

I'm not sure that GEMM is open to anyone to sell on. I have a vague recollection that you have to be a professional dealer, whatever that means. I could be wrong (It's kind of like a hobby)

Anyone can have an Ebay store. However, ebay makes it real easy - if not automatic - for someone who is looking at an item in your store to instantly know where they can get the same item for less.

Ditto Amazon stores. I hear that people also do will selling on Amazon, and you don't have to constantly relist, like you do on ebay.

The thing I look at more closely than the price is the positive feedback score, having been burned a few times by going for the lowest price and receiving a piece of shit CD (or book) -- BRAND NEW!!!!!!!!!!!!! -- yeah, right -- in an already trashed jewel case. The second thing I look at is the shipping charge, which is where many are making their margin but many times is a rip off in itself. I add the two together before deciding if a "price" is a good one or not. I mail CDs all the time and also worked in a record store that did a substantial amount of mail order business, so I know just how much "handling" and postage is involved. It ain't much.

Many times we do in fact get what we pay for.

I make a habit of remembering those source names that burned me, though, and I've since noted that many of their feedback scores are dropping over time.

The customer feedback is the most levelling aspect of anything in any market, thus far, since the seller has no control over it.

Speaking of feedback, I've also noticed a practice that annoys the shit out of me and also makes me suspicious: That is, the seller waiting to give feedback until after his or hers is posted by the buyer. It seems to me that the buyer's part of the deal is done the moment payment has been recieved and therefore that fairness requires the seller to leave feedback first, not last. Allowing them to respond, as it were, to the customer feedback seems to me a bogus practice, esp since a given number of the sellers are going to be dishonest to begin with, one can safely bet.

I don't leave feedback until after I've received the product and checked its quality.

I'll look into that, Steve.
Gary, your posts have nothing to do with the question and topic.

Tough.

It's still a free country. At least on the internet. So far.

If you want me to get on topic alright. One of the problems you're encountering is that the kind of lp's you often list are widely and traditionally available in bargain bins at jazz stores at much lower prices, and this is something that longtime jazz listeners/buyers already know. (Chronological compilations and such, I mean.) There's not a large market for them, in short.
