Iowa Jazz Festival
IOWA CITY, IA - The Bad Plus and Mingus Dynasty will headline this summer's Iowa City Jazz Festival, scheduled for June 30 to July 2 on the Pentacrest.
The Bad Plus, headlining July 1, is a rock-inspired jazz trio known for covering Nirvana's ''Smells Like Teen Spirit'' and Blondie's ''Heart of Glass.''
Closing out the festival July 2 is Mingus Dynasty, a seven-piece jazz band dedicated to the work of legendary bassist Charles Mingus.
Also performing at the festival are Rachael Price; Mel Rhyne Trio; Lee Konitz Trio; Orquesta Alto Maiz; United Jazz Ensemble; Bob Dorr and the Blue Band; Andy Milne and Dapp Theory; South Shore Youth Jazz Ensemble; UI Faculty Jazz Ensemble with Ray Anderson; and Immediate Left featuring Tim Hagans and Scott Kinsey.
