The Boss is comin' to Fenway Park.....................maybe

Bruce Springsteen and the eager-beaver Red Sox jumped the gun yesterday in advertising and promoting the rocker's September dates at Fenway Park, according to the city's licensing authority.

Despite a pending permit application for shows on Sept. 6 and 7, the Red Sox offered tickets to season ticket holders while Springsteen announced his appearance.

``They're aware they don't have a decision,'' said Patricia Malone, director of Consumer Affairs and Licensing.

``Obviously some of my comments in the decision may be targeted toward the inappropriateness of that.''

Malone said her ruling, to be delivered within a week, will not turn on the premature sales.

A Red Sox official said season ticket holders had been offered a ``pre-sale'' of the $75 tickets, and that it was advertised during the Red Sox game Monday.

``Obviously this is pending a license,'' said Larry Cancro, senior vice-president. ``We've never been in a concert situation before - my understanding is that these things happen in this order quite often.''

Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, was quoted on Springsteen's Web site saying the band is ``thrilled to be playing the first rock concert ever at Fenway Park.''>>

At Fenway, Nomah's the Boss.

It'll be cool, but I'm glad I don't live near there. As anyone who's been to Fenway knows, it's crammed right in the middle of a crowded neighborhood of businesses and apartment buildings - not to mention all the hospitals down the road.

I don't mind the new owners coming up with fun ways to make a little extra green, but that old lady needs a lot of care. I wouldn't want rowdy rock fans trashing the place.

This'll be the most exciting thing in Fenway since the signing of Jeremy Giambi.

Whoa! I was under the impression that the BOSS is George Steinbrenner. Thinking to myself "George is gonna buy the SAWX?!?!?!"

Imagine my relief. Although I'd much rather see NRBQ live in Fenway Park.

If Roger Clemens goes into the Baseball Hall with a Yankees cap, maybe we can get Clarence Clemons in the Rock Hall with a Bosox cap.

Associated Press, 6/27/2002

BOSTON -- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band sold out two early September shows at Fenway Park in less than an hour, the artist's publicist said Friday.

Tickets went on sale Friday morning for the concert, which would be the first major rock concert ever at the historic ballpark.

A Sept. 6 show sold out, and a Sept. 7 show was quickly added. All the tickets were gone within 50 minutes, spokesman Harris Cohen said.

Tickets were to go on sale Saturday for shows at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, home of the Chicago White Sox; Miller Park in Milwaukee, home of the Milwaukee Brewers; and Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C., home of the University of North Carolina football team.

Red Sox officials appeared Monday before the city's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing to ask for permits for the two concerts, which will be held while the team is on a road trip. A decision on the permits is expected next week, the mayor's office said Friday.
