Totally unimpressed.
This is mostly for Rita(since I know she's one of the last holdouts), but it's also for all of those who berated me for my stupidity, short sightedness, and lack of technical savvy.
Firefox is no better than IE.
I have been using both of them since I got my new machine a couple of weekends back. Firefox is an eensy teensy bit faster. Except where gifs are concerned. It takes much longer to load them than IE does.
Wow.
Bottom line, Rita? Skip it.

I'd really love to try it, Groover. But fortunately I've already got a great browser.

As I understand, the primary advantage of Firefox is not speed but a lower vulnerability to viruses, as the majority of internet viruses as designed to penetrated IE. But if enough people start using Firefox, that advantage should disappear.

I like Firefox solely because of the tab thing. It's so much easier to have one browser window open with multiple tabs than to have multiple windows open.

I use Kaspersky antivirus.
It's bulletproof.
Viruses are not a concern.

Oh, give me a break. Great analysis, Scooter.
FOR ME TO POOP ON!
Have you tried any of the extensions available for Firefox? What's IE's answer to Noscript, AdBlock, BugMeNot, Tab Browser, Customize Google, ForecastFox, PDF Download, Copy Plain Text, etc.
There are few definite things in this world, but the idea that IE is even remotely comparable to Firefox is laughable. Unfortunately, you need the damned thing for some poorly-coded websites, but hey, one Firefox Extension is "IE View" which allows you to right-click on a page and view it in IE.

Hahahahaha.................................
This post brought to you from someone who has obviously never used the newest version of IE that came with XP's Service Pack 2.
Firefox may have had a leg up before that, but not anymore.

Um, Scooter, I oversaw the installation of said browser on over 200 machines. I'm familiar with it. It's better than it was, but it still doesn't compare to Firefox. And you didn't answer my question. Where does IE, even the newest version, match Firefox for functionality?

Like I care, Dweebly.
It does exactly what I want it to do with no pop-ups. I couldn't give two shits about the other stuff.

Scott,
As you said, Firefox is a bit faster. It's noticable, IMO. That might be enough reason for some to use it (me included).
But security is the differentiator. IE continues to be a mess.

Fantastic. It does what you want it to do, which is basically nothing. IE is very good at that.
Maybe you can review your toaster next!

I've got my machine locked down tight. Security has rarely been an issue with me in the 8 years I've been using a PC. The person who got me into them taught me well.
I think the speed issue may vary depending on what kind of connection you use. I'm on 3mb cable so they both run faster than shit. Big downside of Firefox is loading not only gifs, but thumbnails also. IE loads them MUCH faster.
and as a fellow porn surfer, I'm sure you understand the importance there.

But we don't, because you are a worthless punk.

I prefer the toaster oven to the toaster, IE, firefox, netscape or safari. Of the 6, it's the only one which can handle re-heating pizza as well as toasting bagels or bread. Plus the heat usually kills any viruses.

I'm still on dial up at a 52kb connection and I use both browsers, but I have not noticed a difference in d/l time re pics of any sort.
otoh, some web sites work much better with IE than with FF.
this is stuff i dont even like to think about as i am so bored with pc life. it's like comparing brands of automobile tires to me.

Funny you should bring it up now, Scott, because I've spent the last two days being as disgusted with IE and as close to trying FF as I've ever been.
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."
"Found [by your rec SpySweeper, which I'm trying for free]: 1 item, 1 trace--Adware: eZula iLookup [which permeates every part of IE and replaces itself if manually removed]."

Alright.
1. Are you using SP1 or 2?
2. http://www.whirlywiryweb.com/removeezula.htm
3. Let me know if you like Spy Sweeper. I can send you a copy of mine for free.
4. Try Firefox if you're having that much trouble. If nothing else, it will be a good backup.

Seriously, though, security has likewise rarely been an issue for me. Stability has.
Edit: Scott, I noticed that "Whirly" website. I'll answer your questions later. Thanks!

Nah, she rarely listens to me when it comes to these kind of things. Though she did get Spy Sweeper finally.
Besides, those porn sites she frequents get more sophisticated everyday when it comes to downloaders. That's not my fault.

For anyone curious about another browser, regardless of what you're currently using, there's really nothing too ominous about just downloading it and giving it a try. If you don't like it, you can always uninstall it. Or just don't use it. Some people seem almost afraid of this stuff. It's not that scary. They don't hand out purple hearts for downloading web browsers.

Spy Sweeper should remove the whole damn thing. I've never seen a case where it didn't. But, since you downloaded a free version, it might be out of date?

So what am I supposed to do? Engage in a bunch of worthless shit that doesn't interest me just so I can be some fucking jackass like yourself?
You asked your silly fucking questions and I answered them honestly.
So now it's my turn. Tell me what I'm missing and why?

Actually, now that you mention it, many Touaregs came with OEM Conti tires, which were so soft that these lumbering behemoths chewed through them in about 15,000 miles. I had Dunflop SP8000s, and got about 30K miles, but they were fairly noisy, as they had a semi-aggressive tread. I replaced them with Michelin Cross Terrains, which have a harder compound, and have hardly worn any in about 15K miles, although they're not very good snow tires, and the ride is *noticeably* smoother and quieter. Oh, and they were incredibly expensive, and on the Touareg BBS I've been sniped at by snooty Touareg owners (engineer types) who berate the Cross Terrains because (in my size) they technically don't meet VW OEM specs. Which, as far as I'm concerned, is all the more reason to get them.
