New jazz club on 23rd Street in NYC

Hey everyone,

I'm posting to invite you to check out a new room in Manhattan called the Eighth Note. It's upstairs from the popular restaurant "East of Eighth" which from what I hear has great food. The address is 254 W. 23rd Street.

I'll be performing there with my quartet on Thursday, April 13 with the first of two sets beginning at 10:30pm. On the bill with me so far is Hiroshi Yamazaki on piano and Art Lillard on drums; bass tbd.

I went to check out Kim Kalesti - she opened the room this week with a wonderful show. I'm really looking forward to bringing our music to such a nice space. It's also a very reasonably-priced hang: $7 cover and a two drink minimum. They have a tapas menu which I didn't sample yet but look forward to. This is a friendly room, too. It's cozy, the vibe is just right, and there's a sense of real appreciation for the artists and the music. For me personally, that's what makes the place so special. Hope to see lots of you there on April 13~

Thanks, Lois!

Quick note: I'm happy to announce the amazing Sean Smith will be joining us on bass. My first choice players all around! And, as of today, a special surprise guest will be sitting in...

Dearest Jan,

Where do I Start, Jan? Firstly, let me thank you for such an amazing and impressive SHOW last night (april 13th). AS the manager, host, and producer of The Eighth-Note and its performances, I'd like to say that shows like Yours last night, with Art Lillard, Hiroshi Yamazaki, and Sean Smith, and your "surprise" guest, Cleve Douglass, ARE THE VERY REASON I began this enterprise in the first place. I couldn't have asked for a more entertaining, and soul-lifting performance. Your command of not only the quartet, but also the complete captivation of the audience was as WONDEROUS as anything I have witnessed in some time. I wont say I couldn't have imagined it, because i KNEW from the moment I heard the first tune on your website, www.janleder.info , some months ago, exactly how good you are and how great the evening would be. So, no surprise to me. You OWNED that room last night, and I ACTUALLY got a glimpse of what this room CAN be. You are and will remain to be an inspiration to me. I can't WAIT to see (hear) what's next, when You come back to play again on June 1st.

With love and Sincere Thanks,
Payne
