Organizers of this year's Wichita Jazz Festival, set for April 21-22, are tweaking the festival schedule just a bit.
Only one band will play at the Saturday headliner concert at 7:30 p.m. April 22 in WSU's Miller Concert Hall, not two or three or more as in past years. Performing will be the Caribbean Jazz Project featuring vibraphone player Dave Samuels. The sextet plays Latin and Afro-Cuban jazz with a contemporary flair.
Tickets to Caribbean Jazz Project are $15.
The festival will still feature performances by high school and college jazz bands and combos all day April 21 at WSU's Miller Concert Hall. But organizers have added a 10 p.m. concert by the quartet of Fred Hamilton, guitar; Steve Houghton, percussion; Lou Fischer, bass; and Stefan Carlson, drums.
Admission on that Friday is $15, good all day.
Beginning April 17, the four days leading up to the festival will feature performances by WSU ensembles every evening. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 22, the festival will feature jazz clinics at WSU.
