I am now the proud owner of an Albert Lee Signature Model guitar manufactured by Ernie Ball, and a mahogany Baby Taylor acoustic (which is the size of a travel guitar). I LOVE these instruments.
So last night, I wrote this song to feature them. It's a quick and dirty recording--one mic on each guitar, basically one take on every instruments (drums, bass, the two guitars, some keyboard work). I was still arranging it while recording, so there are the usual disagreements bewteen the various musicians about how the song actually goes (kind of sad, because I'm playing everything!)
The song is called Avery's Waltze, named after the hours-old baby girl our friends just adopted. I felt I owed them a song since when I heard about her name I immediately quipped "Aren't you afraid she'll get labeled?"
I've been wanting to use a whammy bar and a volume pedal since before I'd ever heard of Bill Frisell, and this is my first chance. Whammy bars are like a little boy's penis--once he discovers it, he can't take his hands off it! Hopefully, I'll learn restraint some day. Oh, and also with my whammy bar too.
Thank you for listening.
Moderators--please do not fold this into the thread where I post new Mo' Ritmo tunes. It's not the same thing.
"That link took be to Studio Forums, but since I'm not a member, couldn't access it, Doug. Wasn't able to save the MP3 in the usual fashion, either.
Ideas?"
Hmm--how did mjb do it? I've had people from other 'net communities listen, and they weren't members either. Are you sure you couldn't access it as a non-member? I think the only thing it prevents you from doing is commenting at Studio Forums. I think you'd enjoy the song.
MJB, once again--the classiest comments, most appreciated. I like thinking of myself as a fine whine.
Sorry about that--when I posted, I didn't realize that you had to register at Studio Forums to hear it. I would click on the link and go right there--duh! I hate when I get taken to a site where you have to register just to listen to an mp3.
"Why couldn't you post this MP3 file in the same manner in which you posted the Mo' Ritmo files on your other thread?"
Ron, I'm just out of space at the site where I normally post, and I have to keep the other tracks up right now for various projects I'm working on. I'll figure something out in the next couple of days. FYI, though, Studio Forums is a totally cool site dedicated to music engineering--the guy who runs it is the engineer who recorded Two Days in November. If you did register to hear the track, you'd never hear a peep from the forum again. They don't reach out, they only receive. But if you're not ok with that, I understand--like I said, it's a pet peeve of mine too.
Oooooh, Doug, it's so pretty! That first theme, where you have this ascending line, and then the chords sorta drift down again...dreamy. I cracked up on the guitar solo, about three-quarters through, when you goose it with some blues feeling, really good. I like the swell on the guitar, a little Frisell-like. The little keyboard noodle at the very end also brought a smile. Very sensitive drumming. Gahhh--it's really good.
PS: it costs nothing to join Studio Forums, you don't have to disclose a lot of information, took me less than a minute, no big deal.

JUST KIDDING. I still haven't found a new home for the mp3, butr I will let you know when I do.
Thank you guys for the lovely feedback--Dave, a 'little' Frisell-like? Lol--I actually feel a little guilty for ripping off his concept, although like I said I've heard this sound in my head since before I'd heard him do it. I just never had the tools.
