Hi Lois...I look forward to hearing this Gonzalez guy as well! Is this going to be Upstairs at Mo's or in Sadie's Hideaway?

You might just be able to catch the last set at Vision. Unless you have a week's pass it'll be an expensive set.

Haven't been there yet. Wherever there's a stage and the private room. So I assume that would be Sadie's.

I'm looking forward to hearing this Gonzalez guy as well!

So, they charge $25, regardless of when you arrive? Silly, if so... They should pro-rate.

Same way here: Ornette, then last sets of Vision then the JC jam.

Let me update the band's information for this event...

It'll be Yells At Eels with special guests:
Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado and
Mexican saxophonist Remi Alvarez...

I'll be going to Irving Plaza to hear the RH Factor and Marcus Miller, but then I'll be at the JC jam! My wife and I have a habit of doing "double-headers" lately. Figure we're in the city already......

As a VF volunteer during their second through sixth years, I worked the door on many a night. You know who else tried to pull this one? Martin Sheen. "Um, I'm just here to see the poet." Yeah, yeah, it's still $20...

Hey, it's a volunteer affair. They have to pay the bills.

Guy tried to talk me into letting him free to Dennis Gonzalez's gig I organized here in VT a few years ago, claiming he didn't have any cash, only plastic. I told him there was an ATM less than a block away. Oh, come on, he's going. Bye, bye, pal. Cat's didn't drive here from Texas for their health...

My favorite plea while I was at Environ was, "Hey, man, I'm a friend of the band. Let me in free." I'd say, "If you're a friend of the band you should be that much happier to support their work."

Unknown Lady asks me to put her on the guest list at Jazz Standard last summer. Two other people come up and say, "Don't put her on the guest list, she's always trying to get in free everywhere she goes! You got my name on the list?

While working the door at the last show I put on, a guy came up: "Juma Santos told me to come." "Uh, OK, great. It's $6." He didn't want to pay at all because "Juma didn't tell me."

I know the lady you're talking about, Dennis. No, it wasn't ME folks! LOL!! The woman Dennis is talking about is a real pain, a real pushy, obnoxious woman.

oooohkey... This is pretty hillarious. I didn't mean to start this thing. As some of you know, I present music & often work the door, having to deal with people. The things y'all mention are very near & dear to my heart pet-peeves. All I was saying was that if someone misses 4/5ths or 5/6th of a night, it's fair not to charge them full price. In fact, after the break, I usually ask people to contribute less than full cover... for guarantee gigs & door gigs alike. I think that's reasonable, no?

Maybe I'm too easy, but I always list a "suggested admission price" but let people know that they can come for a few bucks if they're broke. I write a blurb that says "more or less will be accepted, all money goes to the artists". It seems to work. The diehards are likely to pay the suggested price or more. I've had tens of folks give $20 when $12 was suggested. At the same show some kids wander in hesitantly and ended up giving $5 apiece. My plea has been that I won't turn any person away if they're curious or avid enough to make the trip to the venue.

The majority of our Dallas/Ft. Worth/Philly/Baltimore/Rochester audiences is made up of punk kids, many living from hand to mouth. If they can pay something, we take it. If they can't, they come in anyway. And if we have a house show, the band gets fed (they go first) and then the rest of the kids eat the rest of the vegan food all up!

Since I can't make it to NYC both days during Vision week (Friday, the 16th & Saturday, the 17th), I want to pick a day that maximizes my exposure to JC attendees and also allows me to connect with Dennis.

I'd like to attend the midnight jam at Mo Pitkin's even if I don't attend Vision since I know Dennis will be there as well as at least some of the JC people. I also understand that there might be a hang on Saturday but I can't do both.

Question: Who will definitely be at Mo Pitkin's on Friday night?
