Used Jazz CDs
I stopped into a local store yesterday and they had a decent sized selection of used CDS.
I don't go into music stores much, but I was surprised to see that much of their used jazz stuff was 7.99 and 9.99 each.
That didn't seem like much of a deal to me.
Is it?
btw - the store was playing music sooooooooo bad, that I had to leave. I have no idea what it was but it was instrumental and contemporary and pointless.

Shronky?! WTF's skronky? We don't need no stinking skronky.
Anyhow, I got Jarrett's TOKYO, in pristine condition, for seven bucks at the used stuff store the other day. They give you a week's guarantee; sounds reasonable all the way around to me.

$8 - $10 is pretty reasonable for a used CD I think, as long as it is in like-new condition. Where I live, 10 is the low end for good condition, regular "retail priced when new" discs, with some being $12. New price around here is 16 - 18 usually for domestic releases, up to low or mid 20s for European discs (those sometimes go for $14 used, which I think is still a good deal. It isn't as though they are going to be worn out, as was frequently the problem with buying used records.
And the other concern is that the store needs to pay the seller a reasonable amount. No one will accept less than 4 or 5 for a disc when they can get put them on ebay and maybe get 6 or 7. And then they need to be marked up accordingly.
Gone are the days of $3 and $4 used records...

I work in a Used Cd place, and $8-12 (Canadian) is the usual range for jazz Cds. Imports (European, Japanese) are normally between $14-20, depending of their availability. OOP stuff varies a lot, depending on what it is. We have a clientele for 60's jazz and free jazz, so those might be a bit more expensive. OOP straightahead jazz is normally less expensive. Usually, we try to price CDs at about half the price you'd pay in stores (new). If the CDs are slightly scratched, we lower the prices accordingly (we try to avoid this, but in some cases we'll buy them anyway, if it's good stuff).

A great thing to still get a hand of these is garage sales or the like.
Time consuming, but I regularly manage to find great CDs in excellent condition for around $2 this way.

Sounds about right. Eight bucks was the norm for a decent used CD when I stopped frequenting the used shops a few years ago. (too far away, too far to drive, when I can find anything I want, new or used, online with much greater ease and the largest possible selection...).

I bought Supergenerous for 17 cents from an Amazon.com third party dealer, but shipping cost me $2.49.
I am looking for someplace that will sell me jazz CDs by the pound or the shoebox full.
Grab-bag shopping.

I once bought a new blank cassette tape for $1.99. I also saw a Tony Orlando and Dawn cassette for 49 cents. Wouldn't Tony and Dawn have spent their time more productively creating a blank cassette rather than actually doing something with music on it?
