If you like Blakey's Jazz Messengers check out Shelly Manne's "Boss Sounds" (1966) for some killer playing by Manne, Frank Strozier (some of his best), Conte Candoli, and the woefully underrated Russ Freeman.

Well, you have piqued my interest. I just ordered both of them (and Parker - At The Vortex for good measure) from Cadence.

Thanks. You have my address? (If you got it from my website, don't use it! It's changed).
