John Stetch

Anybody else listenin' to this guy besides me? My new favorite pianist/composer.

I think he's wonderful. Bought his new trio album, *Bruxin'* at a concert last week and it's great. Very creative composition (all original) and terrific interplay amongst the entire trio (Sean Smith on bass, Rodney Green on drums). Charming and deep ideas:sounds fresh but isn't in any way obtuse or difficult to listen to.

He also did a recent notable trilogy of solo piano recordings that received attention on NPR. I have and enjoy the Monk disc (it's one of my late-night favorites for chillin'). Stech uses extended techniques playing inside the piano, but it's never gratuitous or just for show (IMO). I think he has a unique concept of how the piano can be expressive.

He lives around here so I hope to hear him in a live situation again soon. I really like this guy's music. Inspires me.

I haven't heard anything recently, but I have heard him a lot ovelr the years and like his playing. His first CD featured the then unknown Seamus Blake...
I believe he did 3 solo CD's recently, but cannot remember.
