Jazz Visual Art

Good morning. I am a visual jazz artist (also trumpet player) located in KC. Does anyone here like jazz paintings or photos? Which ones do you feel capture the essence of jazz?

"Stunning work. There's just nothing like the texture of original artwork. A+"
"Beautiful. Marvelous. These artworks are even better "in person." Great stuff!"
"Item arrived quickly, in perfect condition. It's beautiful, and I'm delighted."

Good morning-

I love jazz paintings and photographs.

With all due respect, I find your post offensive.

Your presence on Jazz Corner appears to be nothing less than an opportunity to expand your potential coffers from those established via eBay.

Confidence is one thing . . .

And, for what it's worth, I'm not particularly fond of your name, Urbankore, either.

Sorry.

Sorry.
I can understand your offense at my first post. On second thought, I shouldn't have included the banner and quotes. Let me see if I can remove it.

But, I am curious, what offends you about the name Urbankore?

Got it removed. Apologies.
This guy is showing in KC right now, his name is Dan White. I like his photographs, but they not as candid as William Gottliebs.

He probably doesn't like your shoe size or your hair tonic either.

Welcome to the forum.

Put a link to your stuff back up. Maybe modify it a little bit to 'de-commercialize' it a trifle. The flashing banner gave me a seizure, so you owe me a free painting.

I saw a piece by some modernist from the 1940s or 50s and it was titled, "Boogie Woogie". I don't rememeber who the artist was, but I think I liked the style. I'd like to see it again. Possibly called "Broadway Boogie Woogie".

Urban...are you Harold Smith? Nice work. Thick layering of media - oil?

Take a look at Jeff Schlanger's work...

Broadway Boogie Woogie was painted by the great Piet Mondrian, JP:

Nothing. Sometimes I'm just grumpy.

Your shoe size and choice of hair tonic are inconsequential, too.

Welcome.

Interesting.

I have to look at it bit.

Would this piece by Mondrian be considered abstract art?

Broadway Boogie Woogie is abstract in some ways, as a work of art, but no more abstract, say, than a map of New York streets painted in a synaesthetic way showing the rhythms of traffic and noise visually.

One thing that people often don't recognize is that the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1940's was fueled by the Bebop music of the Post-WW2 era. Hoffman, Pollock, DeKooning and others would go down to Minton's Playhouse and listen to the music and then go back to their studios and paint.

The 'map motif' was immediately noticable to me.

I just wondered which school of art this painting fell into.

Here's an interesting take on Mondrian

map of downtown Toronto, for those who have never been there.

And from the same site, one of the best video games on the web (must have sound on)

I like your work, Dan. Thanks for sharing.
I've done a few jazz portraits in the past, four of which can be seen here: http://www.h5.dion.ne.jp/~jmurray/art.html

One of these days I'll get off my lazy behind and do some more.

I think Mondrian 's work fell between the Action painters and the Abstract Expressionists...though I call this work Architectural! He also dabbled in post-Impressionism and other styles.
