WWOZ New Orleans Radio

I recently took a road trip down to attend the second weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. While in town, I fell in love again with radio station WWOZ. I've been listening to it on the 'net since I've been back, and the bloom is still on the rose.

New Orleans is probably the only town that could have a radio station that focuses so heavily on it's own music and still be compelling and never boring. Besides featuring so many local musicians - who play live in the studio ALOT, the DJs have a ton of personality and it is clear that they play what they want - and love the music they play and love N'Awlins.

The music is not limited to New Orleans artists (although there is alot of New Orleans music from all eras) and the net stream sounds great. I suggest you check it out. The web site is wwoz.org

Naturally, right after I posted the above, the sound quality of the net feed got all static-y and shitty. It is not usually a problem.

When I visit The Big Easy, I tune it in as soon as I get to the outskirts of town, which for me is Kenner. Peace.

I hear you. After being in the car for 8 hours (after leaving Atlanta early, I got stuck in Birmingham morning traffic), I was stuck in a traffic jam approaching N.O. But since I was already listening to WWOZ, I felt I was in town and I was chillin instead of overheating.

I think it's better since Katrina hit.
The jazz that is being played is a lot better than the programmed cocktail music they had before.
I actually heard the Vandermark 5 played during peak evening traffic. Used to be they would only play bop and hard bop.
Not sure if Billy Delle and his Records From The Crypt is still on the air.
Easily one of the best radio shows I ever hoid.

Yeah. The other night I heard a William Parker/Hamid Drake cut and it seemed to me that this type of thing was a relatively new development. (Like I know)

Records From The Crypt was back two Wednesdays ago.
Hopefully, it will be on this evening. I am going to start checking around 6pm CST.
