Bullitt - starring Steve McQueen

Hi only my second post here but I have this question that i've been trying to find the answer to for so long, it's nothing to do with Lalo's amazing score which i love but to do with a group featured in a restaurant scene,

it's a quartet, they play for no more than 1.5 minutes. the group consits of two white guys on guitar and drums, a black guy on bass and a white female on flute (this may help narrow things down )

could anyone help me out with a group name or something... anything!?!?

and if not then maybe theres a group out there like this? it definatley looks like theyre playing what im hearing so i assume they must exists somewhere somehow

i can post an mp3 i recorded with a mic from the tv speaker if that helps.

Yeah, I think he played guitar on Lalo's score which I also find mind blowingly good.

I have a feeling I may never find out.

Regarding soundtracks of that era, is it just me or does the session that produced The French Connection sound track sound massively under rehearsed?

I don't know if it's under rehearsed, but I think it's one of the most effective scores around. The sparse use of music during the film adds a gritty 'real life' feel to the film.

One of my favorite scenes was when Popeye and his partner are standing outside the French restaurant where the drug dealer (Fernando Rey) and his henchman are eating....just street sounds and clips of the cops trying to keep warm and eating slices and bad coffee while the bad guys enjoy a many coursed continental meal.

Then when the bad guys emerge the chase is on and the music (written by Don Ellis) starts with several double basses playing the opening riff to the main theme out of time...slowing building up until the theme's in full force during the ensuing chase....excellent!

I think that, had he lived, Ellis might have gone on to be a very successful film composer...but we'll never know....

Excellent description. I can see Doyle in his hard shoes with collar up looking miserable.

As to the soundtrack I just found myself thinking when hearing dense harmonies 'it's not supposed to sound like that is it?'

Isn't Don Ellis the guy who someone said "the only tune he plays in 4/4 is Take Five"?
