To be honest, I'd never given it much thought. But, now that you ask, whenever I damn well want to, which is . . . often.

In fact, I'm listening to some jazz right now.

I probably tend not to listen to music that requires a lot of close attention too early in the morning, but that's because I'm a night person and I'm not fully with it until later in the day. But I've listened to jazz all my life, so there's a lot of jazz in my early-morning comfort zone. Jazz is a big tent, and I'm likely to find myself listening to it at any hour of the day and night.

I'm in the same listening zone as SQDC Steve!

I'm also a night person, so tend to listen to music which requires less attention to detail in the morning.

However, I listen to jazz from time-to-time most of my waking hours every day.

My advice? Listen to jazz or any music when it feels good.

Simple.

I could listen to Jazz all day... but then there's the wife and kids... or collegues... (but I have hopes for my oldest son (5), he loves drumming and he says he likes the Jazz I play for him... )

So most of the time I end up listening in the car or in my studio...

I don't listen to much jazz or other music anymore - I am too busy listing the music I should listen to.

I like to wait for a dark, rainy night, after midnight, preferably, when the rain's dripping down the window and blurring the streetlights outside, all alone on my couch, looking down on the lonely street, tie loosened but not yet taken off, deep in the blues ...

After dark. Less distractions and I seem to tune in better. Oddly, another good time is when I'm stuck in traffic.

It depends where i am. If I'm somewhere that begins with a vowel, I listen at a time that has a 3 in it.

I used to only listen to Jazz in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening - or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, midevening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early mid-afternoon, or perhaps the late-midafternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning. . . But never at dusk!

I make it a rule to never listen to jazz when I'm sleeping, unless I happen to nod off with a CD still playing.

Truly, pretty well all the time. I listen to WBGO while I get ready in the morning. Kick in my cd player on my computer first thing when I get in (I read on the subway--no music then) as I can't even begin my day w/out listening to music. Tina Marsh's brand new cd, which I found in my mail last night when I got home, is on now. It's called "Inside the Breaking--Pop Songs, Standards, Arias, and Ornette". I ADORE, ADORE TINA!!!

So, all day while I'm at work and sometimes I work LATE, then when I get home, I listen while I fix dinner and clean up the kitchen. At night, the girls may be watching tv or we'll listen to clssical or the Red Hots or Neil. My girls don't like jazz that well

On the weekend, i listen to it a lot. So, I'd say I listen about 10-15 hours a day.

Ooops. I thought we were talking about favorite times. I keep a running soundtrack to my life. Driving to and from work, at work (got a nice Bose on my desk), at home when reading or watching a ball game.

At home I'm thinking about doing something Dave Douglas says he does. Have different music playing in different rooms. I've got Cd changers in my bedroom, living room and basement. Fill them up, put on repeat play and see what happens.

So far, that's only happened to me when I fall asleep with a CD on, so I guess I'm still listening, on some subconscious level.

I have gotten to where I am listening to some kind of music most of my waking hours. I am a lawyer and spend quite a bit of time on the phone but I am still able to listen to several CD's a day and stream jazz sites and podcasts at work. When I am work, I do have to lean to more of an ECM esthetic. Matter of fact, the lawyer next door to me has become quite fond of a couple of my Charles Lloyd CD's he gets to listen to. At home, I listen to CD's and stream lots of stuff off the computer on a regular basis. I also listen to quite a bit of jazz on the radio late nite here in Little Rock on our NPR station, KUAR.

I'll scan the rest of the entries in a moment, but my answer is exactly the same as Ron's, and I'll bet we see something quite similar a few more times around here.

Whenever I get to choose the music. At home, if there is music, it's some form of jazz or blues. If at work, not so much. My boss likes country and actually knows the lyrics to his selections. So, to cleanse my head, I utilize my I-Pod with my music on it to that end.

I listen to jazz when I feel like it. I usually do my listening in the car when I'm commuting to and from work. When I am listening to jazz at home it is either I have to do a CD review for KSJS or I have to do some research for my weekly show in KSJS land.
