I don't know about this one, Rollie. That album came out in the fifties, no? Isn't the cut-off date for moldy figedness like 1932?.......

I never realized it, but those colorized Columbia Jazz Masterpieces covers do a great job invoking what their mastering sounded like. :)

Yes, two CD set. Big Sid Catlett, Peanuts Hucko, Bobby Hackett, Dick Cary, etc. Pops and T do a very funny 'Rockin Chair', too. Basie once said Teagarden was the saddest man he ever met, so it's nice to hear T say on this that he knows there a heaven, because he's there now. Great playing throughout.

A shorter version of this was the first lp I ever bought with my own money when I was a kid.

Awesome, I need to find it then. Cool that it was the first LP you bought; the first cassette I bought with my own money was Blood Sugar Sex Magic by the Red Hot Chili Peppers; my first CD was Led Zeppelin I; and my first vinyl was Dolphy and Little at the Five Spot (the one that has "Agression").

More favorites:

Goldkette's incredible arrangements that featured Bix as well as the *awesome* Steve Brown on bass.

Oh and let's not forget:

Also wonder why Basie said that about Big T. Don't know much about his life...

Yeah. But the JSP box has a very good sound I think, as they usually do. John R.T. mastering again. I even prefer their sound (in a few tracks, at least) to that of my Joker 14-LP Bix set.

Verve Tatum sides on Pablo -

I forgot where and who told me this story, but all the sides Tatum did for Verve went over to Pablo due to Mike Curb who was in charge of MGM records at the time and was thrilled to have and bragged about unloading all those piano recordings onto that 'sap', Norman Granz.

Too good not to be true!

I'll take Lester, Louis, and Bix, no ifs or buts.

Rollhead's initial disc is a great place to start. Just looking at the cover is making me reach for right now. Lester Young and Teddy Wison together were as good as jazz ever got (IMO).

Interesting that for all your insight, you're one of the few who doesn't realize the extent to which you sound like a pathologically insecure douchebag when you (almost constantly) display your need to proclaim your superiority. (Or more accurately, to declare almost everyone else's inferiority).
