Tribute to Don Thompson - Toronto May 19, 2006

SImply put, one of the most enjoyable jazz experiences I've had. As many here will know, Don is a multi-talented musician/educator/good guy. I first encountered his bass playing when I bought the John Handy Live at Monterey LP in '67 or '68 (my memory fades)

For the tribute we had John Handy, Terry Clarke (also on Live ...); Dave Holland; Phil Dwyer and Jim Hall. It was nigh on perfect bliss. Jim Hall and Dave Holland's duo on Skylark was a high point for me. There were many many high points.

The 7:00 and 9:30 sets were recorded by CBC and the best will be broadcast fairly soon on Katie Malloch's Jazzbeat (http://www.cbc.ca/jazzbeat/) so do yourself a favour and tune in ...
