Could Katharine McPhee dethrone Jane Monheit?
Within the particular niche that Jane Monheit works in, could Jane have a serious contender to her throne--American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee? What do you think--could Kat topple Jane?

I didn't know Jane was on a throne.

If, as you said, she could be "dethroned," your implication is that someone, somewhere has placed her upon a throne from which she could be displaced. No? To me Monheit sounds like she should be on Broadway, or singing cabaret. I have never thought of her as a "Jazz Singer." and surely McPhee is not, either.

My thought is that Jane Monheit is only marginally a jazz vocalist. To me, she is a physically attractive woman with a clear voice and almost no real emotional content in what she sings--much like Kat.
I see little difference between them as musicians, yet one has some credibility as a jazz singer, and the other seems destined for at least short term riches as a packaged pretty pop princess.

Agreed. John McPhee could cause a tectonic shift in jazz geology.

Both those girls will have to fight Mark Murphy for that throne.
