Grandson arrives with a bang
Last Saturday night, our newest grandson made his arrival in spectacular fashion.
The baby was a 10 days overdue and Shell (the mom) had few labor indications. Shell went into the bathroom. She felt a labor pain and told Jerry it was time to go to the birthing center. Jerry went to collect the suitcase, etc. Just a couple of minutes later Jerry heard a horrible scream of agony. He rushed into the bathroom and found Shell standing and holding the baby in her arms.
The total time from the first labor pain until the baby was born was less than 15 minutes.
They called the parameds. When they arrived there was nothing for them to do but pack the happy family off to the hospital where their obstetrician met them. The only complication was that the placenta had to be removed, which, according to Shell, was the worst part of the whole event.
The baby weighed 7 lbs, 15 oz. and is about 21 inches. Mom and baby are doing fine. The baby is handsome, brilliant , talented and a babe magnet. It's the Hopson genes.
While waiting for the parameds, Jerry held the baby and went into the living room where he could be introduced to the right music immediately - "Straight, No Chaser."
Oh yes, the baby's name. "Humphrey" was rejected by the whole family. My lobbying for "Birks" made the last cut but the name they finally chose was, get ready for this:
Theolonius (no last "o") Octavio Strawberry Hopson.
The Pitts ain't got nothing on us.

Is this along the lines of Fulgencia Maeve Myfanwy Smith?

Didn't that cigar soak into a weird place?
WOW, what a fast way to have a baby. Actually, when I had my son, the nurses told me the next baby could come faster, I bet the way Shell had hers.
Congrats to the whole family. You must be very proud Clint.

Congratulations Clint.
"Straight, No Chaser" was the perfect choice of music and my favourite Monk, especially Japanese Folk Song, the complete version on the CD.

Now wouldn't that make an interesting nickname? "Tosh."
Congrats, Donna and Clint! You were already bursting the buttons on your undies Saturday, even before his arrival.

Congrats, grampa Clint.

Congratulations, Clint.
There's a fighting chance this child will hear "slow down, slow down" a few times in his life.
Best to everyone.

Wow, what a story, grandpa! Congratulations to all, especially Thelonius for making such a grand entrance.
Sure hope they don't require the boy to write his entire name in 1st grade.

I was watching some Monk today, not thinking that I'll be responding to a birth announcement. Congrats to the newest Theolonius (and to Shell, Jerry, Clint and Donna as well).

For the record, it's Fulgencia Maeve Myfanwy MONTE Smith. (Caps for emphasis).
I like "Humprey." Thelonious spelled wrong I'm not so sure about.
But great story. That Shell's a trooper. God bless 'em all.

This child clearly has a firm grasp on reducing the cost of healthcare.
Will he be known as "T.O.S.H."??
My best to the family, and congrats to you, you old babe magnet.

Just to correct the spelling, it's "Thelonius." My son says that's the old Germanic spelling. But it is in honor of Monk.
I think Theo or Teo (remember Macero?) or Tosh will be what he eventually will be called.
My grandaughter is calling him "Daffy" or "Toffee." It's hard to quite figure it out, she's only 2 1/2.
