Bogus Paypal Email Warnings

What's up with this? Nothing for years and now I've had six of bogus email warnings from a bogus "paypal" telling me about nonexistent account problems. "Click here..."

Don't.

The real Paypal has an address to forward suspicious email to: spoof at paypal dot com.

I've been getting those emails at least once a week, sometimes several per day, for about 3 years.

Those and ones from banks asking me to log in and update my password. This week was the first one that actually came from my own bank; most are from banks in the US that I've never even heard of.

Do people actually fall for this crap?

The practice is called "phishing." Loads of people do fall for it.

I've received several recently posed as inquiries from an E-bay member interested in purchasing an item listed on E-bay that closed without selling. All of the links in the note go to a bogus E-bay login page.

If people fall for the Nigerian scams they certainly must fall for these in greater percentages.

I get more phishing emails purporting to be from PayPal and eBay than any other service. It's a huge pain in the ass.

I always follow the link and fill in bogus login info like Username: EAT%$#ANDDIE Password: YOUSUCK.

Funny thing is, no matter what I type, I get logged in. Who would have thought that PayPal had a user named that?

Funny, I do exactly the same thing. If Windows is storing your info, it will log you in anyway, but that info is not being transferred to the scammer.

If anyone is still being bothered by these bogus e-mails, just send me your bank account info and i'll make sure you're taken off the mailing list.

Sounds like an anti-Nigerian thread to me.

With the amount of spyware I root out, I'd not follow the link even to fuck with them.

I just go to paypal and check my account and so forth. This last one was warning that someone else had been using my account. Wrong.

I've been using the Firefox browser so I haven't gotten any spyware installed by a website in years.
