Vision Week Food & Drink Thread

Cem asked me to put together a summary of food & drink events we have planned. The Friday lunch was previously arranged via PMs, so take a look (hope you can make it Jan, Clay, etc.). Please check in if you plan to come to any of these and aren't listed. Cem will make reservations for Saturday brunch, so we'll need a count. I'll also need a count by Thursday night for Friday lunch. So far:

Thu, Jun 15, 5:30 pm -- Samba Le
Samba-Le ($$)
Italian, Tapas, Wild Game, Brazilian

23 Avenue A, New York 10009
Btwn 1st & 2nd St

Pete, Cem, Root Doctor (+1), Mingus, Gerardo, Clay, Jan St (tentative)

Fri, Jun 16, Lunch, 12:00 at Nyonya (Malaysian - Pete will order for the table)

194 Grand St, New York 10013
Btwn Mott & Mulberry St

Pete, Brian O, Root Doctor, Mingus, Gerardo (+1), Cem, Jan

Friday, early dinner near Carnegie before Ornette... 6 PM? tbd - we can discuss on Thursday night at Samba Le. Best bet is probably Menchanko-Tei (a very authentic, reasonably priced Japanese noodle shop)

Pete, Cem, Gerardo (+2?)

Sat, Jun 17, Noon -- Esperanto (145 Avenue C & 9th St.)

Pete, Cem, ????

Later Afternoon (2-3 PM), early eve -- drinks at d.b.a.
41 1st Ave, between 2nd & 3rd Streets Just show up.

Hey Pete, I can't do the Thurs. dinner, I have other plans. Depending on my kids' softball schedule, some of the other events may be possible. My daughter's, Liz's, team is in the play-offs! How late do you think I can tell you?

Sorry for any inconvenience.

If I can leave work early on Thursday, I'll try to make it. Otherwise I may just show up late, take a chair at a corner of the table and mooch off of Roots' plate.

The food line-up looks very nice, Pete! I'm getting hungry already.

My friend Santiago from Mexico just told me today that he's flying to NYC as well. He actually found Ornette tickets in the same row as me, Cem and my two other Mexican friends. Santiago will arrive to NYC from Monterrey on Thursday night, so he'll almost doubtless will come along with me to Friday lunch and dinner. I haven't heard from my two other Mexican friends if they will come with us to dinner on Friday; they probably will, though. I'm totally in for Thursday dinner anyway too.

Looks like the drift is toward Thurs, but is anyone going to be @ Wed. 6/14 for Sam Rivers? I may be coming in for that one.

I'll be here all week (except Friday). Try the kebab. We could have a lunch or dinner gathering at Ali Baba, a great Turkish restaurant on 34th street between 2nd & 3rd Ave.'s. I'll try & make resos, if enough interest.

Pete, you can count me in for Friday's lunch. It's a couple of blocks from where I'm staying.

Kind of scary... all of my meals in NYC are already pretty much accounted for.

I would not let Pete deprive me of picking up a NYC hot dog with sauerkraut at an umbrella on my way from one restaurant to the other.

Forget about NYC hot dogs--I hear one can get Chicago hot dogs at Danny Meyer's Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.

Isn't that Mr. Soprano himself? Maybe from the same family?

The important question, Jan, is can you make lunch on Friday and/or brunch on Saturday?

I'll be there. I think Cem will be too.

Look for the tall bald guy with the beard and glasses. Or one of the 50 or so people that fit that description.
