Wrestling Thread
I can't believe there hasn't been (or at least I haven't seen it) a wrestling thread here with all the hard-core "sports" fans we have here.
You can't beat it for nuance, subtlety, drama, etc. It's better than Opera and one HELL of a lot more entertaining that baseball.
I am going to start out here by listing my favorite "rassler," and that would be Mark Henry, who before becoming a pro-rassler was the largest weightlifter in the history of the Olympics at 366 pounds.

I thought this was going to be a thread about changing tires.

This is Mark "Sexual Chocolate" Henry after he went on his famous Metabolic diet.
No need for Mark to cheat like Barry Bonds.

You gotta admire Mark "Sexual Chocolate" Henry because he lifted "real" weights, not like that fraud
"Haystack Calhoun."

I know you baseball, football and basketball fans fawn over the "stars" who have their pimped out rides, etc., but the guy who started it all in sports was a "rassler' of course -- and that would be another hero of mine -- Gorgeous George.
Here is George checking out some awesome Liberace-style outfits he can wear into the ring.

That's wet hay there, rollie!
I'm sure we had a thread on Calhoun a little while back, right?
When I was about 9 (1963) we went to a rare pro wrestling extravaganza in Poughkeepsie. Bruno fought Dr. Jerry Graham. Other headliners were Bobo Brazil, Gorilla Monsoon, Dr. Bill Miller. (amazing how many doctors decided pro wrestling was their first love!).

I stopped paying attention once Captain Lou and the Grand Wizard got out of the game:

Roots, that reminded me of a personage I surely haven't thought of in 40 years:
Red Berry!

Brian, I am thinking you are right there. I am sure I recently gushed about my enthusiasm about Haystack and Georgeous George.
If not, I should have.
Also, it doesn't surprise me at all that doctors got into wrestling -- next to chess (and crossword puzzles) it is about the greatest in the way of a true "thinking persons" sport
Lore: Great song! Thanks!

rollie's antipathy toward baseball probably stems from the fact that he couldn't hit.

Actually, it was the tacky sartorial and grooming standards of baseball players that woke me up and made me understand how limited the game is. (That includes Harold Baine's afro)
No self respecting "bad guy" in wrestling would be caught dead wearing something like that. It is more like something cartoon characters would wear.

Gorgeous George wouldn't be caught dead in a getup like these guys are wearing.

You'll think I can't hit when I demonstrate the "pile driver" on you and Chris D.
or one of these Mark Henry moves.

Big shocker there, Cappz.
When he was wrestling down in Tampa for Gordon Solie's little org, he was an absolute mess. Him, Blackjack Mulligan, Barry Windham, and Cowboy Ron Bass terrorized that town for years!!

On my eighth or ninth birthday, my father took me to a WWWF wrestling match. Ringside seats! I believed that wrestling was the real deal until that night. First, I saw Toro Tanaka and Bruno Sammartino arrive in the same car. Secondly, after the Chief Jay Strongbow versus Baron Michel Scicluna match, in which Strongbow(real name Joe Scarpa) was bleeding like a slaughtered pig, I touched some of the "blood" which was left on the floor after Scarpa was thrown out of the ring. The blood was red paint. Many years later, even the antics of Superfly Snuka and Ivan Putski could not undo these betrayals.

Does it count for "real" if they are on steroids -- or are drug free?
At least "wrasslin" is honest in that it makes no pretense at being honest -- unlike MLB.
