Angry Congressional Hopeful Blames Troubles On The Devil

Congressional Hopeful Blames Troubles On The Devil

SALT LAKE CITY Republican congressional hopeful John Jacob believes the devil is impeding his efforts to unseat five-term Representative Chris Cannon.

He says there's another force that wants to keep him from going to Washington and the devil is what it is.

Jacob says that since he decided to run for Congress, Satan has disrupted his business deals, preventing him from putting as much money into the race as he had hoped.

Jacob said during a Wednesday immigration event that the devil was working against him, then reiterated his belief yesterday in a meeting with The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board.

He says there's been a lot of adversity, and there's no question he has had experiences that believes are due to an outside force.

Why is it that we laugh at this idiot but when a successful politician (or whatever) thanks God for his/her victory, no one guffaws in their faces?

If more people guffawed in some politicians' faces, a The Emperor Has No Clothes situation could emerge, which would not be a bad thing these days.

In general, there's not nearly enough guffawin' when politicians speak, God-thanking, Satan-blaming or otherwise.

As a descendant of Mormon polygamists, Jacobs is proudly carrying the torch for irrational thinking - a trait of ALL religions.

OK, let’s assume for a moment, that God and Satan actually exist:
How does he know it's not God doing these things? Why is he so certain it's Satan?
Maybe God doesn't want him to succeed because he's a dumb-ass, and Satan is helping him because he wants the world to go to hell?
Just thinking out loud…..

Hudson Boy -- It's also a very common trait of politicians. Combine them and you get the whole wazoo in one package.

Unfortunately.

God doesn't want him to succeed because he's a dumb-ass? Hmm. I don't wanna mention any names, but a certain President comes to mind. I think God sometimes does want a dumb-ass to succeed.

At least policiticans might have a reason to think they're on the side of God. What's seems sillier to me is the baseball players who pray or cross themselves when they come to bat, as if God is a fan of their team.
(We all know that God is a Met's fan - remember 1969?)

Maybe "god" learned after getting Alfred E. Bush installed. Maybe after the first conversation, he said, "Oh my god! I've put a nitwit on the throne!"

Or maybe "god" is a dumb-ass himself.

The one is the Bible is about as arbitrary, capricious and violent as any loon has ever been.

As a friend of mine who taught in a NYC community college once said, "it's tough to teach Critical Thinking when half of the class believes in the devil." And that was in New York.

Good one, Pete.

It's hard to teach thinking in such circumstances. It has to be at least a possibility, after all, if it's to be taught.
