Herbie Hancock receives Donostia Award
Piano player Herbie Hancock was given the Donostia Award in the 41st International Festival of San Sebastián, an edition that presents a wide range of exquisite performances.
The American piano player received the prize Monday, July 24, at the Trinidad Square stage. With this award, the festival recognises him as "a fundamental figure in the evolution of contemporary jazz and one of the greatest piano players."
"Jazz wouldn't be the same without somebody like him, able to make progress in his style, from his beginnings as a member of the band Miles Davis until almost 'inventing' jazz-rock, and his current absolutely personal and high-quality trajectory," Miguel Martín, director of the Festival, noted.
In turn, the tickets for two "delicatessen" performances by Caetano Veloso and Keith Jarrett on July 25 and 26 are sold out. Veloso visits Donostia-San Sebastián for the first time, and Jarrett repeats last year's memorable experience.
