Edmund Tijerina: Donated jazz CDs will head for Iraq
San Antonio Express-News
To the jazz lovers of San Antonio: Thanks for supporting the military.
The "Music for Marines" initiative has ended, and local music lovers donated more than 300 jazz CDs, some jazz videos and a few jazz-related books, said KRTU station manager Ryan Weber.
The music collection drive took place last month when the local jazz radio station worked with the 1st Marine Logistics Group to help the Taste of Jazz Café at the Al Taqaddum military base, west of Baghdad.
The station, on the campus of Trinity University, accepted donations at its location and at a series of performances throughout the city.
Now, the folks at the station are putting the music in special boxes that the U.S. Postal Service supplies specifically for shipping to service members abroad. Even though the station has plenty of music it plans to donate, first priority for shipment goes to the other donated items.
"We have a lot of CDs at the station that we want to send," Weber said. "We want to make sure that the CDs that people donated get there first."
When the music reaches its destination and the station receives a response, we'll let you know.
