Marc Ribot solo @ Zinco Jazz Club, México city (with videos)

I attended this gig during a one night stay in México city a few weeks ago, thanks to the quick notice given to me by my friend Gilberto Pinzón, a great bebop guitar player.

Ribot played two hour-long sets and he presented a very diverse program, from beautiful Masada pieces to his Albert Ayler versions (including a lovely "Ghosts", decidedly better than Ribot's recorded version), some country tunes, a couple of Django-sounding ones and he even sang and played punkish, distorted jams. He played both acoustic and electric, and had an arsenal of effect pedals (as can be seen in one of the pics below). A fun gimmick was that he had a bunch of inflated balloons in the stage around his chair, and he would step on them or blow them with his hands to culminate a feedback or a distorted scream.
