Trouble Signing In To JC
I don't know what's happened but since yesterday I seem to only be able to post once and then I get locked out, sometimes to the point of not being able to read threads, even. I sent two emails to Lois yesterday but haven't heard back. Any ideas? I even created two hotmail identities, registered them and all that, but they get locked out as well. When I do sign in, I get the thanks Gary Sisco for signing in page and then it tells me, again, I have to sign in or register before I can use the board. But nothing works after that point.
The only thing I've done different on my end yesterday was a virus scan and a spyware scan, but I've done both many times without experiencing this problem.
Ideas?

Sounds like your computer is not accepting cookies.

I don't know, Scott. There are sure a lot of cookies on the machine if it's not accepting any. Also, I'm not having any problems on any other site. Kind of hard to have a conversation here at the moment because I can only successfully sign in about one in ten attempts and then not for very long. Pain in the ass. Maybe one of JC's techs can email me or something. Lois hasn't responded. I don't know who they are.

Patience, my friend. Ma will respond.
Just make sure you e-mail her and not just send her a pm.

Sent her two regular emails yesterday morning but haven't heard anything. This is way too much of a pain in the ass, though. I'm finding that I can post only after I restart my machine. After I finish this post, I'll be locked out again, and so on. Life's too short for this kind of waste of time so I guess I'll be seeing youse sometime.

If you're using IE, try the following:
go to Tools>Internet Options>Privacy
then set the slider down to "accept all cookies." Then log in to JC. Then go back to privacy and set it back to medium. That should hold your cookie. That's what I do on machines not at home.

Actually, setting it at medium will suffice.

I believe I had to go the other route on machines that were already set to medium.

Seems to be ok now but I've thought that several times, now. Pain in the ass. The more communication devices we have, the less communications seems to take place......

There was an upgrade of our software the other night, announced at the top of the forums.
Gary, it's a common problem, and it hasn't been hard to fix. There are only a couple of things to try. Pete's procedure may be the equivalent of one or both of them.
This may sound like a different problem, but the same solutions apply:
From my replies won't stick! in NOW THAT I'M HERE...HOW DO I?...:

Hi--
It sounds like a Cookie problem, but I suggest that you try each of these two things:

2. Click on "Trusted Sites" (the green circle with the checkmark) and then click the "Sites" button below it.
3. Uncheck the "Require server verification (https: )" button if it's checked, and add www.jazzcornertalk.com to the "Add this Website to the Zone" field. Then click "Add".
4. Click "OK." Then click "OK" again.
5. Close all of your browser windows, then re-open one and try logging onto JC.
6. Send five dollars to Moné Peterson, P.O. Box...

(I know that you can log in, but I don't think that you can "really" log in--that is, have your login info. be retained.)
Please post again and tell us whether the problem is gone.

Also, Gary, when you log in, make sure that "Remember me?" is checked.
Are you on a PC, using Internet Explorer? Otherwise, if you can't extrapolate from the directions above, a number of posters should be able to help you.

Gary, with all respect, that's kind of like restarting your car so that you'll be able to make a turn. Besides, that's not what solves your JC problem.
Instead of restarting your machine, clear your Temporary Internet Files (in Firefox, Clear Private Data). In fact, do that first--before following any instructions in this thread. If you don't know how, yell--but tell us whether you're on a PC or a Mac and whether you're using IE6, Firefox, or what as a browser.

BTW, kids, I finally switched to Firefox. Now I use IE6 only for the secure pages at my bank's site, which won't accept Firefox.

I got it fixed, somehow, Rita. Not really sure what I did. Was a pain in the ass, though.

Okay, you sound more sure that it's permanently fixed now. Great. If you have any more trouble, though, tell us whether you're on a PC or a Mac and what browser you're using (IE6, Firefox, Netscape, etc.).

Gary,
Sometimes, problems like that are fixed when you delete the cookies in your web browser. You can delete them all or find only the ones that include a reference to jazzcorner in them. Then close your browser and try again. Those files can be a problem sometimes, not sure why. Maybe they get corrupted or aren't compatible with revised versions of the web page. I don't know. But it has worked for me in the past.

You're right, bn. Cookies set for a site might not necessarily contain the name of that site. And no, clearing all cookies isn't fun (lots of info to re-enter). I've just gotten lucky a few times clearing out a few hand picked cookies (sounds like a trip to the baker) and found it fixed the problem.

Sorry--I deleted the part of my post to which you're replying. Anyway, I'd suggest clearing all of the Cookies, even the chocolate chip ones, only as a last resort.

I had to register a new email and password, as it wouldn't take my previous one, my user name and pass word which isn't much over a week old. This brand new one it accepts. ????? I referred to the letter from Lois to triple check as to why I couldn't get on site so, I just registered with our other email server. Is it an AOL thing? Yahoo is working fine.

AOL mimics IE if you want it to. You need to that in AOL preferences under browsing.

Thanks, Yahoo is fine, I'm not even going to bother with AOL right now, might foul up my other settings. Easy for me.

Not so up on what clearing all Temporty Internet Files does, what will I lose if I do this? What's Temporary? What's not? Like I don't want to lose any mail in my mail file, mail I may not have saved to an Internet file storage, like AOL's, not my computers own files. I sure don't want to lose most of them, nor any photo's I may have saved. Or does it just clear away cookies which may have slowed things down for me or that might even have a hackers door into my computer? I did find two users on my computer one time, and got rid of them, but??? Just what does the process do?
