Jemeel Moondoc

I only have "Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys", which I like a lot. What are his best albums, other than this one?

Gordon -- I like the New World Pygmie CDs (Eremite) and also the Tentet at Vision (Ayler).

I don't know if his Soul Note recordings are still in print, but if so, check out Konstanze's Delight from the early '80s. For more recent stuff, Fire in the Valley, a live set with John Voigt and Laurence Cook is a killer trio recording.

I'm pretty luke warm about either of the tentet recordings (either the one on Ayler or the one on Eremite.) In both cases, the ensemble just never quite gels.

A live recording with Jemeel and "Jus Grew," a nine-piece band. Brash, raucous, ruminative, completely absorbing music. Bern Nix is one brave guitarist, hanging in there with all that brass firepower.

Moondoc's trio date with Parker and Drake on Ayler, Live at the Glenn Miller Cafe, is pretty snazzy.

Drimala records is having a 40% off sale. Several things I looked for are out of stock but I did get three Moondocs,
Fire In The Valley --
Live At Unity Temple
New World Pygmies Vol 2

as well as Tenor Duets (Parker/McPhee)
and Domino, which made a couple of lists on the best of 2003 thread.
